They were probably encouraged to move on so Bama could use the 7 additional slots for recruiting and transfers. Especially since that is the exact number the NCAA allows due to portal loss.

Where comes this idea that just because someone is transferring from bama, he's gong to be good enough to help us...beat bama and other SEC teams?Maybe and maybe not. If these guys did not play much for bama, then maybe they aren't all that good. It's possible that a few of them could be talented, and didn't get the PT they wanted because of bama's top-end talent, but one can't assume that every bama castoff is worth pitching to join the Vols. Each individual has to be individually vetted, of course. A lot of bama recruits don't pan out--but we don't hear much about it because their first 35 players are so strong, typically.

Shoot with as many snaps as D will get, the LBs are all but guaranteed PT here if they are good enough to play 1st string anywhere.

And ANYTHING we get for defense will be an upgrade! Blows my mind people don’t understand how bad our talent and depth are!

Think about it. Let’s take Albert Verse. The transfer from Albany. Now let’s just say a Bama DE entered the portal at the same time. Which one do you think is MORE than likely going to be the better player? A guy that was developed by Albany or a guy that was coached up by the GOAT?

There is no guarantee that any transfer will work out. But if you have the choice of taking a player from Bama or UGA, they are more than likely going to be a good option. Just because they couldn’t see playing time at Bama doesn’t mean they aren’t good. Bama is stacked with 5 and 4* talent at virtually all positions. Just because they could beat out those guys doesn’t mean they couldn’t come to TN and immediately beat out our guys.
