Several emerging on Arkansas’ list of potential coaching candidates

Butch Davis, advisor Tampa Bay Bucs – Butch got his first head coaching job with the Miami Hurricanes in 1995, after serving as the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator in 1993 and 1994. Miami had slipped into mediocrity and Davis brought the team back to national prominence. He has a great defensive mind and is known to be an outstanding recruiter. The NCAA recently exonerated Davis of any wrongdoing during his tenure as head coach at North Carolina. Butch is from Springdale, Arkansas, and attended the University of Arkansas.

Didn't know Butch was an alum. I think it'll be Malzahn though. No way they go from Petrino, someone with character issues, to Butch, someone with a bad rep in recruiting.

I think it comes down to Malzahn, Davis or Strong.

I don't trust Davis. But he has no NCAA limitations. He makes a lot of sense.

I really think it will end up being Malzahn. That will really suck for Arkansas State though...

I hope they get Strong so it will stop all the Strong to UT stuff....I would love to get Malzahn as the next coach at UT if Dooley fails.

Exellent post, op!

This is a serious list to watch. If someone is on it or shows up on it who Hart wants, he can't let the Hogs scoop the guy.

That makes it highly relevant to Tennessee football. Suprised to see it on the 'AA forum.

The fact you don't like Strong but want Malzahn is logic fail.

Malzahn is a PROVEN offensive genius...Strong is a good defensive coach but I am not sold on his ability to win long term...He is winning a few games in the big east which isn't much stronger than the sun belt...Malzahn could get it done long term and do very well once he has his players in place...I just prefer him over Strong...I am not buying the hype on Strong...I mean the guy lost to FIU for godsake :eek:lol:

How many games has Malzahn won as a head coach?

Strong is rebuilding that program. You'll see it this year. Oh, and the guy can flat our recruit.

I like Malzahn, but still. They are almost the same thing. Really smart strategic coaches with nice recruiting backgrounds but are very, very unproven.

And FIU isn't that bad of a program. Cristobal has done a good job there.

So Malzahn is a proven offensive genius but Strong is just a good defensive coach? I'd argue that the man with 2 national championship defenses and the multiple years (with multiple HC) in the toughest conference is the proven one. Gus inherited a 10-2 championship team this year, Charlie inherited a mess when he got to Louisville. Very similar to Dooley. Only difference is we're finally starting to see Strong and his team turn that corner and it's clicking, hopefully we'll see that.

Unless fans are ever actially put in charge of hiring, doubtful

You couldn't see Arkansas saying "He's been rehabilitated and we feel he can continue coaching." They put in a low contract with tons of incentives and morality clause or something.

you gotta think these guys are on UT's radar also which sucks, because as I said none of them will fare well in the SEC.
