Do VCU administration or boosters (if they have any) have pictures of him sniffing coke off a hooker's back in Vegas or something? There has to be a reason he hasn't left for a better job (i.e. UCLA or Illinois). I would at least pick up the phone when we begin our coaching search after the season and make him say NO.

I'd offer him too--but I think he's already turned down better programs than UT. Coming to UT wouldn't be a step up for him.

From what I understand Smart is happy at VCU. The administration bumped his pay and I believe he has kids in school in the area. Not saying he wouldn't leave but Hart would have to open the checkbook to make this happen. I'd love to see this because Shaka is a great coach but would UT commit the dollars for this?

Probably not, but someone said he makes $1.5 million a year currently. Why not offer him 2.5 a year and just see what he has to say?

his wife. iirc she became the Assistant Dean of Business school. If you google her there are a few articles giving some theories why he's stayed. He's Foley guy if Billy calls it quit.

That makes no sense from a financial perspective. If some program offers him $3 million a year I doubt that will matter. We can give her a job too if she really wants one.

What is impressive to me is how much your stupid statements represent half of the UT fanbase. How do you know what he wants or strives for in life. Why the hell would he leave a place that worships him for the dumpster fire that is UT sports right now. Go fire up your thunderbird and go for a spin through Greenville,

Who is "we"? Are you throwing in a couple of million?

He's built VCU from nothing, and he's now able to land top talent their and consistently be a top 25 program. You think offering him a million extra a year will lure him to UT? Dave Hart is that you? You want Shaka here you are going to have to make him a top 5 paid coach in the country, and UT isn't willing to do that.

He turned down 2.5 last year, why would he take 2.5 now?

And I don't see Hart paying 2.5 million for a basketball coach, do you?

Perhaps we need to pay Cuonzo more. Then maybe he'll start calling TOs and coming up with late-game strategies. Maybe get in a players face, or heaven forbid berate a ref.

Guess it more about the family and his comfort level than getting a big time gig. 2mil yr and the wife is happy. Dont think you could want much more.

We love our team and swing positive that way...you're obviously not afflicted with that malady...since you hate Ford vehicles, maybe a nice road trip through the heart of Alabama...in an import...with a bumper sticker of a rear end captioned with OPEN FOR BUSINESS is in the works...betcha like us better on your return :)

He is making great money and is a hero at VCU. He can afford to wait for the perfect promotion, and UT is not it. I don't understand why our fans think this is possible.

Loving your team and being irrational do not have to go hand and hand. Just because you cheer for a team/school does not mean you should be blinded to reality.

It would be a step up going from VCU to UT.... he just seems to have no interest in stepping up IMO.
