That's what happens when you lie. Gives new meaning to "The truth shall set you free".

Not exactly sure how that's funny. There's definitely a lesson to be learned here, though.

Give Colombia credit. They really didn't know who she was but gave her a work permit at 15. They created 1 more American job than Obama was able to create last year.

Only an idiot would stray from Sarah, Emily, Jennifer, Rebecca, etc.

I don't mind a little creativity, but with the world we live in, like it or not, a name like that is a handicap. Sorry. I don't make the rules, I just tell it how it is.

If it is a handicap it is so because of individuals like you.

So it's ok to speculate what a Billy Bob would look or act like in person but wrong to speculate what a Jaquita would be like?

double standards are fun.

Have I done so or supported such speculation?

I honestly dont know as I'm still fuming from LG calling me a racist and cant see straight right now. I think the guy is a ****ing moron and is the most racist guy on this board because he sees race in everything.

I just think alot of people on here are ok with fitting stereotypes into situations if the stereotype is white but not if its black.

Its either ok to stereotype everyone or no one.

But to be clear... I dont think your a closest racist like LG.

I'm not speculating. I have first hand experience in the matter. My wife has a very non-traditional name based on her greek ancestry and, like it or not its a handicap. Is it right? No. But I humbly believe it is a mistake for a parent of any race, class or creed to express their own creativity or individuality when naming their children. Others will disagree and that is fine.

On the other comment, you can't stick your head in the sand about some names. Billy Bob is clearly disproportionatly represented by one group while other groups have their own names.

I hope my record on here demonstrates that I do not think it okay to stereotype any group. I'm not perfect, so there might exist instances where I have. If so, my apologies and I would willingly offer clarification for any of those posts.

Personally, I am a 'Jimbo' so I definitely would not make assumptions about someone named Billy Bob.

Oh I'm not sticking my head in the sand. Some stereotypes are true.

Billy Bod normally preceeds "get the gimp."

Banjos. Over-alls. Cop from Live and Let Die.

Statistically, rare, original, or non-Anglo-Saxon names have shown to work as barriers. That does not mean the problem is with the parents or the child. It means the problem is with ass-holes who treat an individual a certain way due to their name. It is not a handicap, though. A handicap is something that inherently makes it more difficult for an individual to do something; a name does not inherently do that. The barrier is wholely external and wholly a social social construct.

Clearly you haven't been in a school lately.

No barrier is larger than Billy Bob.

It's not a color thing. It's an education assumption thing.

Maybe you are a Billy Bob. Thorton did ok on more than one level but still one educated Billy Bob will never overcome 1,000 who are screwing pigs right now.

I do make speculations though and sometime sterotypes exist for a reason.

It sounds like we agree on everything - except I think its a bad idea to set your child up with a name that will probably cause them grief.

With regards to York Vols comment - no, I have not been in a school lately so maybe I'm missing out on the mew trend. If names are changing fine by me. Maybe in 30 years David and Steve will be "out there" and someone on this board will be saying he thinks naming a child David or Steve is a misguided idea. So be it - does not bother me.
