maybe in 2-3 years, but what about he just changes the discipline methods, gets control of the players, gets the Bama recruiting scandal off his mind, and gets to doin some coaching..... and we go 13-0 or so next year.... some SEC team is gonna do it, the BCS has to shut someone out.....

He's on 1-year probation with me. He's got next year to prove it.

:shakehead: Just like some others on here, I'm tired of the topics on firing Phil. :banghead: Always seems that when something goes wrong it's the HC fault. What about the players. Agree that Phil has made some bad decisions, but the "TEAM" haas got to put it together. As far as the QB situation, I'm tired of hearing that too-Looks at the stats! Plus guess who may be beat out next season! :nener:

You know; the big guy's still the active coach who holds the win percentage title, with tenure of 10 years or more.

He's 7 years removed from winning our last NC. Let's see, how long was it before our last one in 98? Oh, 47 years, that long? Wow!

I would have thought from the majority of the posts here that we were winning NCs about every 4 years. I guess not.

Do you folks want to know what's the saddest part of this thread; that 6 people voted that he should be fired. :banghead:

I have two words for them Nit, and Wit .... or is that one word?

Either way, it applies.

Young fans need a history lesson about right here.

Prior to the 80s, when restrictions on scholarships began to take effect, there were 2 great teams in the SEC, Alabama, and Tennessee, and in that order, regardless of who says differently?

In those days there were 3 teams you could pretty well count on winning the SEC, Bama, UT, and GA in that order. Bama has 23 Crowns, UT 13 and GA 11.

While the SEC has always been a powerful conference, with 8 schools in the All-Time AP Poll top 25 (Bama's ranked 4th, UT 7th, GA, AUB, LSU are 13-15 respectively, Florida 17, Arkansas 18 and Ole Miss 23) the power has been more divided among the top 6 Power teams since the onset of parity.

To further illustrate the effect of parity on today's college game, and in particular in the SEC, since 1999, all 6 of the Big Names in the SEC have EACH won an SEC Championship. In the years 98 through 2002, a different team won the conference each year. That's 5 different schools who won the SEC in a 5 year stretch.

No other conference comes close to that type of parity, where 5 different schools won a title (outright) in consecutive years.

With that said; some of our fans need to grow up and realize that an SEC championship is a rare and prized thing. Yes, we're due one. We may very well add another trophy in the case in 06.

If we have another year like this year in 06, then it may be tiem to look at a change, but to even consider it after one bad year is, well, as stupid as Ole Miss firing Cut.

Stop the whining and act your age guys and gals.

Well said . . . Part of the problem is that you literally have to be 25-30 years old to have any recollection of what real mediocrity in our football program looks like.

Old Vol, you make some valid points. I know that I am disappointed with the level of play that UT has demonstrated this year with all the stupid mistakes that are being continually committed over and over. There hasn't been much headway into correcting the mistakes either. The mistakes are not because of the lack of talent, but an indication that the players have not been properly prepared.

I agree but at least they're consistent. You have to give them credit for that.

Every time I respond to this poll issue I vote differently. I'm not sure what that means.

I feel the same way VH. I think that Fulmer should be FIRED UP. Stop taking the crap, admit that the program is on the slide and fix it quick. No more duck and dodge, no more rope a dope (get off of the ropes and start swinging). He has taken everyones best shot, now get of the map and start swinging.

The majority of our problems can be fixed.

Our biggest problem is the lack of fear our players have of our coaching staff.

When discipline is restored, and I think it will be, this team will be great.

When you have one kid per month getting arrested during the off-season, you can only blame the lack of fear/respect they have of the coaching staff.

When kids are instructed regarding their elevated position, and they still go out and make selfish choices that reflect badly on the entire team and university, then there's a lack of respect for those in authority over them.

When I was young, I feared and respected my dad.

I feared him so much that I would never run the risk of getting caught. That's not to say I didn't misbehave, I just didn't do it in a fashion that I'd get caught.

When our players learn some respect for this staff, it will get better.

I believe Fulmer knows he's got to tighten the screws this off-season to keep his job.

It all begins and ends with discipline.

If a kid is too selfish to consider what his actions do to his teammates, he'll probably not be that focused on his game.

Right now, there's a lot of disunity in play.

It will get better.
