The Aaron Fike drug use scandal has once again brought attention to the lack of drug testing by NASCAR. While there are provisions for random testing, it is not being done to my knowledge. The gist of the current policy is if someone seems to need testing we will do it, but Aaron Fike was never tested, even though he claims he drove at Memphis while under drug influence. Many drivers are calling for mandatory testing, Greg Biffle said test everyone before the drivers meeting. What do you think?

why not? it makes sense in todays world where there seems to be cheating in every sport...

In your stick & ball sports the concern is over performance enhancing drugs, or as you put it, cheating. NASCARS concern is more toward performance inhibitor drugs where the driver's ability is hampered making him a potential threat to himself and other drivers.

IMO NASCAR doesn't want a stricter drug testing policy because they don't want their God fearing, Good 'Ole Boy, family sport image tarnished by drug useage. So they keep the testing low key to avoid finding what I"ll call "incidental" use. In other words, if it is not causing a problem, let's pretend it isn't happening. Can you imagine the ramifications if a couple of "name" drivers were to test positive, or just one if it were a Jeff Gordon or Dale Jr? Now I'm not saying Cup drivers are using drugs, but if there are drivers now in feeder series who do use such as Aaron Fike, they could be in Cup soon, if not now.

Can a driver get drunk before the race? :eek:lol:

Back in the day it was commonplace. Once Curtis Turner was out partying the night before the Southern 500. He was so drunk, he was afraid he might not get up in time to be at the track, so he went to the track and passed out on the hood of his race car.

I've heard that Coo Coo Marlin almost always drank alcohol before a race.

well obviously since Fike was using HEROIN... Im pretty sure no top notch drivers are using anything to inhibit their performance... with all the money at stake these days, whos to say whos using what to increase their performance.. After Carl Edwards was in Mens Health and Mens Fitness (along with his incident with Kenseth on camera), many people were thinking he was on steroids... it takes a lot of endurance to run these long races and stay in competition.. its just like blood doping in bike racing, no one ever thought they would do it either.. no matter the sport, everyone wants an edge when moneys involved

Anything is possible, Steroids would not be anywhere near an edge for a driver as a runner or ball player since there is not the same physical exertion, nor is strength as important, see Kasey Kahne. Do steroids aid endurance?

steroids dont just make you big and strong... the ones used by pros, like HGH, help your body recover faster so youre ready to play (or drive) again the next day.. so no drivers wouldnt get as much benefit as a baseball player but blood doping (the bike riders) increases your aerobic capacity so driver could somehow benefit from that... but hey, if Jimmy Spencer can drive a car 500 miles I guess anyone can
