Sources: Bruce Pearl, ex-Tennessee Volunteers coach, to receive show-cause penalty - ESPN

Former Tennessee men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl will receive a multiple-year show-cause penalty from the NCAA's committee on infractions, and his three former assistants -- Tony Jones, Steve Forbes and Jason Shay -- will receive one-year show-cause penalties, multiple sources with knowledge of the report told ESPN.com Tuesday.

The NCAA called to alert the respective parties that the news release would be coming out Wednesday.

That should put to rest completely anyone that doubted that firing Pearl was the right move.

Yup. But I'm sure you'd still get the same argument that "we'd be better off with a suspended Pearl and have him coming back than firing him".

But who would have coached in the interim with all the assistants getting show-cause penalties as well?

There might be just a couple of people who think that, but there are fools everywhere. One can still like Bruce, think this whole thing is a ridiculous (and 100% his fault for being stupid), yet realize he had to be fired. I think that's where most objective fans are. The extremes of hate and discounting what he did, as well as denial of the reality of the situation don't make sense to me.

Without a doubt Pearl put UT back into BB relevance, excited the fan base and filled TBA. But with his actions has caused the program to come crashing down. With all of his shortcomings, I liked coach Pearl and would have preferred he stayed on as coach, but in reality that would be big mistake. If he were just suspended a cloud would hang over the program as long as he is around.

I just regret that we may be for a long period of mediocrity again in BB. I hope Coach Martin can get us back on top again, but I am not optimistic that we will be anything but a middle of the road SEC team for the foreseeable future. I really hope I am wrong.

So what does this mean? I understand Pearl, Jones, Forbes, and Shay were all accursed of unethical conducts, and Pearl was also accused of failing to promote / to monitor. They are getting punished for it now, which I don't really care.

If I remember correctly, UT was also accused of failing to monitor the basketball staff, but the ESPN article didn't mention UT at all. Does this mean UT will get off lightly?

Wow, it's amazing how right a few of the posters in this forum were about that staff and how wrong a very vocal group of morons were.

Who were the posters that were right? The ones that said he would never make the Elite 8?

Yet Calipari and Krzyzewski continue with business as usual despite ncaa violations. Nope, there's no favoritism from the ncaa.

Cool, bro. Want to try again? Who was right, the posters that said he would never make the elite 8?

You mean the same posters who admitted to being wrong? Funny how the morons still can't admit they were wrong about the guy. Yeah, those guys you are talking about were right when they said he would bring trouble and that there was absolutely no way Tennessee should keep him.
