Silent Commitments

I have been hearing tons of talk about a silent commitment on boards about different players and I was wondering how often does a silent happen. And what are some examples of players that have done it

Didn't really keep up with it then, but Meachem supposedly.

It seems to be getting a lot more prevalent lately though

I think Tony Jefferson admitted he was silently committed to USC earlier this year, but then he switched his commitment to UCLA...

It is done so other schools can't negatively recruit against you. there are other reasons, but that's why USC did it.

Meachem i think was i remember when i lived in tulsa i saw fulmer at a restaurant then a few weeks later Meachem shocked OU and signed with us

It's rumored that he was. But he didn't qualify, so it wouldn't have mattered.

happens a lot but just like public, can be changed. sometimes kids are silent to 3 or 4 different schools at same time

That was nothing more than an unsubstantiated rumor. And Moses didn't even qualify, so it wouldn't have mattered.

common reasons to be silent:

1) keep hometown pressure off the prospect, if he chooses a rival school.

2) the staff wants to make a big splash with an announcement and is delaying it until the timing is right.

3) the prospect wants to continue to hear from other schools, so he doesn't want his current favorite known.

4) the staff is courting other prospects at his position and doesn't want the announcement to scare off another target.

5) the school wants to avoid being negatively recruited against, so they lie down low in the weeds.

6) the school has landed a sleeper prospect and they know with a public announcement, it will raise his profile, thus bringing on new suitors.

there are plenty of other reasons as Larry can tell you.

back in 03, i remember @ Spring Break I was talking with a bunch of kids from OK who were like "You got Meachem he is the bomb, best player we've seen in person" I had no idea back then...then 2006 happend, B@M
