David Stremme will not return to the #40 car next season for Chip Ganassi Racing. The top candidate for that ride is now IRL driver Dario Franchitti, leaving Reed Sorenson as the only American driver for Ganassi Racing. Coors Light will not be back on the car next year either. Who knows where Stremme will end up, most likely in the Busch Series.

Mark Martin and Aric Almirola will split time in the #8 car for DEI next season. Regan Smith will be driving the #01 car for DEI as well.

also, Robert Yates will retire at the end of the season, giving full control of the team to his son, Doug Yates. In addition, RYR (or I guess you could say DYR) has hired Craftsman Truck Series driver Travis Kvapil to replace Ricky Rudd in the No. 88 next season.

I can't say that I find it surprising that Yates is retiring. It's only a matter of time before Yates Racing closes its doors

i don't think Kvapil got a fair shake at Penske. i'm still not sure what went on there.

while Yates isn't a great team, it's nice to see him getting another shot...

Thinking it over I can't really evaluate Yates too good when Gilliand and Rudd are driving his cars. Niether are Cup caliber drivers at this stage of their career. Wait, Gilliand never was

I think the term "silly season" is well...silly.

I mean seriously - if it refers to NASCAR which is supposed to be tough and blue collar why use such a wimpy term.

How about "Insanity Period" or "Out of Control Occasion" or "The Ludicrosity"...:)

Dale Jr. and his team will announce his sponsor and number at a news conference on Wednesday in Dallas. It has been speculated for some time that Mountain Dew and Amp Energy Drink, both Pepsi products, will be primary sponsors on his car. It's also presumed that National Guard, currently the primary sponsor on Casey Mears' 25 car, will be a sponsor on Jr's car. Why Dallas? Pepsi is having a convention in Dallas next week, so there you go. Possible numbers mentioned have been 81, 58 and 38.

Meanwhile, in one of the worst kept secrets in NASCAR in some time, Jr's current sponsor, Budweiser, will be moving over to Kasey Kahne's 9 car next season as the primary sponsor.

Yep, I can't wait to watch Jr's news conference even though we pretty much know what's going to happen

anyone else heard Coors Light may become the official beer of Nascar and possibly take over the Busch series?

haven't heard that, but it's possible since Coors is leaving Ganassi now.

Jr. is expected to be driving the #88 next season, which will be announced Wednesday in Dallas, along with his Pepsi sponsorship.

It has been confirmed that it will be the 88. If it is Pepsi i will puke.
