Because of my ties with both schools as a fan, I have been wondering this throughout the week.

After all of the message board AD's have thrown the majority of the coaching staff in Knoxville under the big Orange bus, is it possible that Tennessee will face a re-building year similar to that of which TAMU is facing this year.

In theory, we are in a far diffrent position currently as the Vols still have a long tenured coach in the driver seat, and this is Sherman's first. But I raise this question. Considering that Fulmer will return, which I think he will, is the Tennesse infrastructure, meaning (Qb's, offensive, defensive coordinators, and key positional players) future up for a complete overhaul?

I pose this due to the fact that it appears that the Vols are headed in the same direction TAMU was in the off season. New faces in new places from top to bottom. Now dont give me this "SEC is wayyy better" crap. I know this already so save it.

My question is do you see the similarites between the two programs and if so, expand on how you foresee it turning out in the upcoming year.

Thanks and Gig em Ags, & Rock on Rocky Top.

i don't see any similarties between the two. you already stated one reason, they've been thru a couple of coaching changes already since slocum.

a couple of other things i would throw out there is that a&m has for all intents and purposes beein irrelevant on the national scale for quite some time. dont' take that the wrong way, that's not say TN is still on the national radar, cause we're not.

but, there was a period that last from about 1992 til about 2003 or 04 that year in and year out, we were at least in the discussion nationally......

A&M has had the occaisional season where they won the big 12, but the reality is, they've been overshadowed by OK and TX the vast majority of the time the big 12 has existed.

if i were to compare a big 12 south school to us, i'd be TX. comparable traditions, boht have an inter division nemesis (OK and FL), have largely watched that nemesis have a great deal of success at their expense, i think Mack Brown and Phil Fulmer both have the same amount of conf. and national titles and both coaches are looked on as better recruiters than game day/x's and o's kind of guys.

this comparison is on a fairlly long timeline. of course right now, and the past 3-4 years, we're not in the same class that TX has been in. but overall Brown and Fulmer compare favorably to one another, and ultimately, TX has what we have.......

I can understand that Jake, completely, and I think you are dead on about t.u. being far more comparable. Considering their relavancy on the national scene, that would be the best choice. My question is more on the lines as, what type of upcoming years do you expect given that these changes occur? It seems to me that Tennessee will be in their same position given those changes are made, for the next several years, whereas, the other confrence leaders, your Floridas, Lsu's, Aburn's and Georgia's will continue to gain credabilty nationally.

Much like TAMU, Oklahoma, Texas, and recently Tceh, Mizzou, and dare I say Colorado have taken a front row seat to the Ags. I am just wondering if yall forecast this same type of transition to take place in Knoxville given those drastic changes are made at the end of the year?

Great considering, I missed the game last week due to a baby shower. Whats worse is that it was in Austin, so I had to drive 2 hours to watch us fold up like a walmart lawn chair, with a bunch of t.u. grads who constantly gloated about how they were going to destroy Rice. Im going to the Army game Saturday so, hopefully my experience during tailgating will put me back in the maroon koolaide mood.
