Yep, I think most all refs don't cheat on purpose, they may have a inner bias that they do not confront or their not even aware of. They can choose not to call on certain teams that they may like the coach more or that was their team growing up or if a certain team wins it helps their main team. They can justify it by saying to their self I didn't make a bad call I just missed that one or ignored it. Somehow they figure that's not really cheating.I think that this would only empower the refs even more than they are now. Pi$$ em off and they now call/not call holding, for example
This is sobering reality. Our society has deteriorated.Want to know why refs are so bad now? Just drive over to any little league game next Spring and Summer and watch 75% of the parents act like complete fools and imbeciles and treating refs and umps like they are sub human as opposed to real people doing something they enjoy because they love kids and the game. Who would volunteer or be paid $50 bucks or so to be verbally abused by delusional and abusive parents for 2 hours? There’s your answer - and believe me, I know. My son is 16 and has spent his entire life in baseball. It’s sickening
They are pretty much there already. I can’t imagine a points based system helping the situation at all, in fact, it would likely make the problem worse.I think that this would only empower the refs even more than they are now. Pi$$ em off and they now call/not call holding, for example
$50!! Hell for several years I called as many as 2-3 games a night for nothing and enjoyed every minute of it (nearly!). Was called any name you can think of. Never bothered me (can't say the same for my wife and kids two who played baseball ball). Even had a coach pull his team out of a state tourney game (he was bared from coaching for a few months, coached more than one sport) Once had a called appealed to the Little League head office (called upheld). There are this type things happening all the time and many much worse. The thing is you can't let them bother you. You are gonna make mistakes. You just can't get caught up in the excitement of the game which seems to be what happens way too often.Want to know why refs are so bad now? My kids are 15 and 12 and have a somewhat different experience. Parents behave very well towards the umps. It's the coaches sometimes cross the line.Want to know why refs are so bad now? Yup. If you pay them enough to deal with that crap it’s one thing. In these little league games they’re making peanuts and pretty much doing it because they enjoy it. Dealt with a lot of parents who do their best to ruin it for everybody.Want to know why refs are so bad now? There is enough money in CFB to make the refs full time employees, with grading systems, rewards, punishments, etc. They should be evaluated each game and then culled by their performance. Give bonuses for proper calls, impartiality, and correct their mistakes. Maybe they even clean the game up a little and greatly reduce things like holding and improper tackling techniques from the game.
If you make it a desirable job with competitive salaries and benefits, you’ll have the best chance of getting the best talent and outcomes.
