Since EVERYONE wants to compare UT to Alabama here is something that I need to remind you of...

Nick Saban accepts Alabama coaching job on JANUARY 3rd, 2007...

Butch Jones accepted the job to be Tennessee's head coach on December 7th, 2012...

---only a one month difference between the 2 coaches---

The recruiting class Nick Saban took over that year finished 10th (according to Rivals), and his next recruiting class for 2008 finished #1...

The recruiting class Butch Jones took over this year finished 21st (according to Rivals) and his next recruiting class is on the verge of finishing in the Top 5...

---

Nick Saban's FIRST season at Alabama finished with a 7-6 record (ended on a 4 game losing streak, including a loss @ HOME to LA Monroe...)

Butch Jones is 3-2 and is looking like he may finish the season at around a 6-6 record (hopefully better) with a bowl game invitation...

---

After implementing his own football strategy and recruiting his own players for that scheme, Saban led Alabama to an undefeated season the very next year...

Butch Jones is on the verge of doing this very thing (implementing his football strategy and recruiting players for his scheme)...

Patience people...patience...

Am I saying that Butch is going to be as good as Saban?? No...but it helps to show someone that it even takes a Hall of Fame coach at least one season to get the ball rolling at a school that hasn't been successful in a few years....just saying...

Go Vols!

I don't want to compare UT and Alabama.

I just want someone to give me an example from this century of a coach who actually took 4 years to rebuild a major program, since everyone keeps saying that's what Butch ought to have.

On a side note;

Arizona state and southern cal's cheerleaders are nice to look at.

I'd say 6-6 is best case scenario. I'm not as doom's day as most of these short-sighted pessimist, but I'm fairly pessimistic for this season. That being said, I'm glad we finally have a coaching staff to get behind. Anyone who can't see past the last 12 hours in terms of the hope and promise of the program, is just copy/pasting same comments from Dooley era. The only difference is that it was warranted then. Give it a rest this season. It's not going to get better this year.

That pic of the dog butch slapping the dude is hilarious. Where in the world did you find that?

By the way, Butch is doing a good job considering he really doesn't have the people to run his offense, he's just trying to work with what he's got.

Much like a manager in any form of business, he is trying to get top notch results with what he has at his disposal and sometimes that is much harder based on the people you have in your company.

Get the word Bama off of this board. I'm tired of hearing about this trash. Buck Fama!!

You and me both, but I'm also tired of people trashing the players and coaches on this board, and then the constant comparison of talent between teams

This. We ain't Bama and thank the good Lord we ain't. I'm so proud to support the Vols, through the ups and downs. How sweet victory over them will be. I will cherish the day. Won't be long, just need a quarterback.

If Butch Jones is as good as Saban he wouldn't have been the fourth or fifth choice by Hart.

These stupid comparisons will only be valid if Jones starts stringing together national title runs like Saban.

Kids don't know how to close....Dooley's stank of losing and lack of confidence lingers...Butch tried to make Worley lead these kids to victory but the kid is a basket case on the field with a Ramen noodle arm. IMHO that is why the play calling went the way it did...Worley can't handle it...it maybe take your lumps early Ferguson for next season.

Majors came to U.T. and the program was horrible. It took him all of ten seasons before the program was a consistent winner.

Sure he had winning seasons along the way, but he would have a winning season, then a losing season, then a winning season, then two losing seasons.

There is your example:

Yes, but that was an era long gone. There's no major program out there that would let a coach take 10 seasons to "rebuild". It just doesn't happen in this age.

BTW Saban also beat the snot out of UT his first year at Alabama; so even in that terrible year, he got a "signature" win.

You are correct! With millions of dollars on the line, coaches are expected to have immediate results.

I think bUtch will stay here and get it done though. Us, fans, can't get impatient and run him off, like we did Fulmer.

If we are doing this "brick by brick", then it will take a long time. I would rather take a long time and get a good foundation built than to get a rush job, like Kiffin was attempting to do.

So according to you, how long should Butch get after taking over the absolute mess that is the Tennessee Vols?

Also its kind of hard to rebuild and get very quick results when you do it honestly. Oh sure Butch could be like a lot of other coaches and hand out money and get boosters and alumni to "help" out but it seems he wants to do it the honest way.
