Saw on ESPN this morning that Speedway Motorsports has purchased Kentucky Speedway. Kentucky seems one step closer now to getting a NASCAR race.

I thought they were only going to add new races in areas outside of the south, trying to appeal to a wider demographic.

Considering Kentucky Speedway is almost in Ohio, I don't think you could qualify this race track as being in the "south". Nonetheless, SMI can now move a race from one of their other race tracks to Kentucky if they want.

Thanks for the info. I haven't kept up with nascar since the days of Petty (Richard).

I believe Nascar has to approve a race move. As far as location, being near Ohio is big. I am going to bet that Ohio is one of the top three or four states from which people come to Bristol outside of Tenn. Where I lived in Ohio was mostly rural, and I knew about 30-40 people that came regularly.

The place is a traffic nightmare. They need a Cup date at Nashville first.

This whole deal isn't over yet until Smith buys another track. He's not going to move a race from one of his current tracks, plus, he's been dying to get a second race in Las Vegas. The tracks I've heard for a while he's been interested in are Pocono and New Hampshire, and moving a race from either of those tracks, or both, would not upset me one bit.

Plus, NASCAR probably isn't going to approve a race to Kentucky until this entire lawsuit goes away.
