Smoke loses cool at USAC race

hilarious.

this further proves the point that when a male driver does something like this it's not as news worthy as when a woman does it.

He hasn't actually got the #14 yet, but he is acting more like Foyt already. Seriously, he should be penalized for his actions, or it would be open season on officials. Just like umpires, or any official in any sport, you cannot put your hands on them in anger.

Nothing wrong with showing some emotion, but he crosses the line too many times and comes off looking like a punk. IMO

I like the drivers to show emotion, but you have to be able to control yourself, to avoid crossing that line. I thought Stewart handled the in-car interview with Rusty very well, giving intelligent responses, but he just loses it sometimes.

only thing that bothers me is that if were someone else doing the same thing, everyone would be freakin out... but since its smoke, no big deal.. almost like "manny being manny", which I also cant stand..

of course nobody will be talking about this:

In addition to the fine and his race team being placed on probation through the 2008 season, Stewart will also pay for the costs of new radios and uniforms for USAC officials.

“Tony offered to go beyond the penalties USAC assessed him because he wanted to do something positive that would have specific impact for our officials,” said Kevin Miller, CEO and President of USAC. “While what took place at ORP last week was unfortunate, we applaud Tony’s commitment to bettering USAC and for providing additional equipment officials use week in and week out.”

Yeah, that worthless cliche could be used to excuse Charles Manson, "Just Charley being Charley."

hey, i'm just saying there's as much news about him doing good things as there are about him doing bad things, but nobody mentions it and he doesn't flaunt it.

Tony Stewart, John Andretti brighten day for Riley Hospital patients | IndyStar.com | The Indianapolis Star

Two-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart was the featured guest at Wednesday's Kroger Race for Riley, a fundraiser benefiting Riley Hospital for Children. Or was he?Stewart insisted that honor belonged to Cameron Holt, an 8-year-old Riley patient from Plainfield, who suffers from terminal brain cancer. Holt was one of the primary reasons Stewart flew in his private plane -- at his expense -- to New Castle Motorsports Park for a meet-and-greet with Riley supporters.

Stewart called stricken children like Holt "the best role models," insisting they don't complain about the situation they face.
"They're always convinced they're going to beat it," Stewart said.

you can find a Tony Stewart article like this just about every week.

Or Tony's Eldora race which raised over a million dollars for Victory Junction. But hey, don't let the good stuff get to you, people will just keep criticizing him and disrespecting him. Not to mention, the media's overuse of "fat jokes" against him.

Because smoke does good things too doesn't give him a free pass to do inexcusable things. I don't care if he speaks his mind or ignores the media but he has no right to put his hands on an official regardless of what charitable things he has done. NASCAR is full of giving people, many if not all drivers do similar good deeds but most know how to contain there-self when they get upset.

Tony loses his temper and he has to face the music. He has no free pass. He has to be penalized just as the other drivers or (owners) would. If you weigh the good and the bad he does for the sport, the good by far out weighs the bad. He not only owns teams that will be racing far after he retires but owns his own track. He gives back to the sport that gave so much to him. Sometimes what he gives isn't to good, but most of the times it is. JMO

See how giving Smoke is. He just wanted to buy the officials some new gear.:)

“I apologize to USAC and their fans for my behavior last week at ORP. My own misinterpretation of USAC policies in place at the time led to confusion and elevated emotions,” Stewart said. “I’m very passionate about my race team and will stand up for them when I think something isn’t right. Obviously, I handled this particular situation the wrong way, and if I had to do it over again, it never would’ve happened.”

so if you have the money to buy stuff for people, you deserve the right to attack helpless officials? I mean theyre not humans, theyre just officials, right??

I agree that while Tony has a generous nature,it does not excuse some of his on-track actions. When you're in the public eye, keeping your emotions in check is part of the job. Yes,drivers should of course be allowed to express their emotions but not in a way that brings harm to others.
