The best damn hound in Tennessee, served 1995 thru the 2003 season and retired after the Peach Bowl. 91-21, Two SEC Titles and the 1998 National Championship.

RIP Smokey VIII...Off to Neyland in the sky, Thanks for the run.

Can they not just lie to us and say that Smokey lives on???? Kind of like Santa Claus.....we KNOW the guy at the mall isn't Santa Claus but so what.

Aren't there enough newsworthy stories out right now to fill the 5:00 news slot than to have to ruin some kids day by telling them Smokey died? I mean, come ON!

I saw Smokey VIII up close and personal in Columbia 2 years ago. We were walking around the stadium and all of the sudden Smokey and a couple of cheerleaders walked right in front of us. I said, "Wow. That was Smokey!" Sorry to hear about the ole boy.

Amen brother! Did Smokey VIII have more wins under his collar than any other?

RIP Smokey VIII

My avatar is a pic of our new Smokey when he was in training at the 2002 O/W game I believe.

Rest in gentle peace Smokey...boy, he helped us win a bunch of games. I got really sad when I read that he had given it up yesterday.

To me, Smokey is a huge part of U.T. football and I really hated to hear he was gone.

But, the next Smokey will be there to do his thing now...time passes and things move on...

Smokey IX has been on the job since the kick off for the UNLV game 9-5-04. He's a little less keyed up than 8 but he's still young.

I'll never forget reading that Smokey 8 had become ill the am of the NC game in Tempe. Apparently he had a Hotel bath towel for a midnight snack before the big game. During the UCLA game he went down with heat exhaustion and was listed as injured the following week.
While leading the team thru the T his final (home) season Smokey 8 stopped just before making the left towards the (East) sideline and left the field crew a gift.

Smokey IX has some pretty big paws to fill. I think he's doing very well.
