There are usually several different ones, 2 or 3 for the men's Smokey, and 3 or 4 for the Lady Vols Smokey. (There is a difference, the Lady Vol Smokey has bows its its hair! :lol: )

The two Smokeys are run out of the two seperate men's and women's cheer squad offices. Each department had 2 suits when I was there (maybe more now). The Smokeys attend sporting events, marketing events and special events as scheduled by the athletic department, and can even be rented out!

They are usually people who have some history being a high school mascot that attended camps, or people with some sort of performance (acting/dance) history.

There is a lot of crap most of us don't know about that all of these Smokeys go through, and I have a lot of respect for somebody that can put up with that heat and torment from visiting fans and kids....lots, and lots, and lots of annoying kids! :wacko:

I dated one of the female "Smokeys" when I was a freshman, and thus I had to hear about and experience this stuff ad nauseum...sorry to ramble :crazy:

Yeah, actually some of them do get full or partial scholarships, just like the cheerleaders. My ex got all of her books taken care of, but not tuition or board.
