I have this theory. I have noticed since my time in the East Tennessee area that there are a lot of people who are not originally from the area meaning that therefore are more kids going through the high school football programs who are not Tennessee fans due to not having the Vol tradition in their family.

In my dealings around the area I notice a lot of people moving here from northerly climates, even from the midwest and the west. Of course these people and their school going kids still follow their own teams.

I know this has been happening in Florida for years, but the schools there can absorb this because there is so much talent, whereas here in Tenn we dont have that comfort level.

So that may be a vaild reason, along with poor performance etc, that Tennessee are stuggling with the recruitment of in-state kids e.g
Brandon Warren, Golden Tate, Patrick Turner and so on.

Does anyone have an opinion on this?

If it's a problem in Knoxville, think about how it is in Nashville. There are a bunch of transplants here. It does effect it but as for Golden Tate, he goes to a Catholic school, so I'm sure the people there are really pushing for him to go to Notre Dame.
