BCS source: Playoff 'gets done' as part of new contract - NCAA Football - Sporting News

“It gets done,” a high-ranking BCS official told Sporting News Monday evening.

Here’s how: over the next six months, the leaders of the sport will meet at least four times to iron out a plan that protects the importance of the regular season—the one aspect BCS leaders believe separates the game from every other—while embracing a new frontier for the poll-driven sport.

It begins Tuesday here in New Orleans with a meeting of conference commissioners, and includes meetings in Dallas in February and Miami in April. Another meeting in June is also likely, especially considering the magnitude of the potential change.

When asked what the playoff would look like, a high-ranking BCS source said there are “at least 60” different options on the table, and that includes everything from a four-team playoff to one game after all the bowls.

*Except the 2011 season where Alabama was given a bye into the BCSCG.

Funny how Slive and SEC proposed the +1 a few years ago and the other conferences hated the idea.......................

For lack of better terms, it is what it is. Like it or not that is how the National Championship is set up. JMO (and a bunch of other people) the two best teams played last night.

How about since so many people want to preserve the tradition of the bowls we do this:

Go back to the old bowl tie in system where the Rose Bowl gets Pac 12 / Big 10, Sugar gets SEC, Orange gets ACC, etc.

In alternating years play the Orange Bowl and Rose Bowl either Dec 31st or Jan 1st. Play Fiesta and Sugar the alternate day. Example 2012 has Sugar and Fiesta Dec 31st and Rose and Orange Jan 1st but in 2013 the Rose/Orange is Dec 31st and Sugar/Fiesta is Jan 1st.

Take the top 4 teams in the BCS standings that won their BCS bowl game and put them into a playoff after the bowls. You can alternate sites of where the playoffs take place each year like the NFL does with the Super Bowl.

For example this year the 4 bowls may have looked like this:

Sugar (LSU VS West Virginia)
Orange (Clemson VS Alabama)
Rose (Wisconsin vs Oregon)
Fiesta (Oklahoma State vs Stanford)

After those bowls take the winners of the 4 bowl games and number them 1-4 by BCS ranking and then have a playoff after the bowls. Yes, technically the bowl games will be the first round but they won’t be ordered 1-8 to preserve the tradition of the bowl games themselves. Then right after the bowls they will rank the winners 1-4 and do a playoff from there over the next 2 weekends. It wouldn’t extend the season much further. We finished this year on January 9th. In my scenario we finish the playoff on January 14th.

Just a thought………
