your link is busted....but I will say that I've found NPR to be the most balanced of the news outlets.

Ummm....I surely would not agree with that. I listen to them but do not find them balanced at all.

depends on your viewpoint. If you're firmly on one poilitcal side then nothing other than something that leans more to that side is going to seem balanced to you. I'm pretty much in the middle so I like it. I don't agree with everything on there...diane ream can be pretty annoying...but other shows can be much more balanced.

The article was about the rising cost of food and fuels affecting people...they've been doing this series for a little while. They just found a family who gives context to the numbers from the poll that they helped conduct. While the family sound exorbitantly lazy to me-the basic premise of the story that people who are already on the poverty line are being pushed over the tipping point, seems to be spot on.

The point of the story was a doom and gloom piece, but they should have found a better example was the point.

Not really. I firmly lean to one side and if I hear some news that leans my way, I do not consider it balanced. I consider it leaning my way. Same can be said for the opposite.

Do these people seriously need to worry about food?

I think that the last line kindof insinuated that they were forced to buy cheaper foods such as starches that are less healthy because of a worsening economy. While I believe that their nutritional assumptions are off base...the picture helps prove their point.

No, it was implying they were starving.

well if that's the case, then i vote all food should be free including steaks. the government can pay the farmers and meatworkers.

No, it was implying they were starving.
The rising cost of food means their money gets them about a third fewer bags of groceries — $100 used to buy about 12 bags of groceries, but now it's more like seven or eight. So they cut back on expensive items like meat, and they don't buy extras like ice cream anymore. Instead, they eat a lot of starches like potatoes and noodles.

They're living off welfare and complaining they can't buy ice cream?

hey, i'm against lazy welfare people as much as the next guy-but your falling for the red herring in the story so to speak.

I'm not disagreeing with the fact that money doesn't go as far as it used to, but you're missing the point. NPR was reprting about a family who can't even buy the food they need and it's two large women. Do you not see why that's funny?

By the way, there is no red herring here, even if it was they would have eaten it by now!:p
