....driving into work. He said Nebraska/OU will be a battle of 12-0 teams for the Big 12 title and that Iowa was a NC contender.

Questions.

1. How can he really think this?

2. How is Kirk Ferentz considered such a great college coach? I just don't see it.

Sorry, I try not to be the replay talk radio to message board guy, but I nearly wrecked when I heard him say each of these.

(And for those of you who want to bash my talk show listening, it's him on XM or the three idiots on 99.1.)

Phil Steele sometimes does seem far off but if you look at his stats he normally is right on, he has tennessee finishing like 6-6 with a music city bowl i think this year, grab one of magazines and you will be loaded with info.

the big 10 stinks. personally i think iowa isn't a top 10 team, but they don't really play anyone.

Favorable schedules for all those teams, Iowa especially because their toughest games are at home. I've heard quite a few analysts say they believe the big10 will send a representative to the title game this year.

Alabama and Florida both could very well have a loss going into the SEC championship game this year. If so both could be left out, the question is who will the other team be if this scenario plays out?

I don't see how they can leave a one loss Alabama or Florida team out of the National Championship game. The SEC is 6-0 in the championship game since the creation of the BCS, in my opinion, if the SEC has an undefeated team or a one loss team, they should be placed in the Chamionship game until another conference/team can prove that the SEC champion is not always the best team in the country.

That's the problem with the BCS. It very well could play out this year that we see an Iowa vs Boise State NCG. Neither has a tough schedule, Big 10 and WAC/Mountain West (whatever they are in) come on.

Add that to the fact the SEC has won the last 4 BCSC's so all of the northern and western voters want to see someone from outside win it, a 1 loss SEC school could very well get the shaft.

If OU and Nebraska both beat Texas, exactly who do you think they are losing to?

I don't disagree with OU at all. That's very possible, I'll even say probable.

But unless Nebraska finds a way to put up about 60-80 more yards a game there is no way they go 12-0. It's just a very bold statement to make for a team that finished 99th in the country in total offense last year.

As for possible Nebraska losses other than Texas - Washington, Ok State, and A&M because all three are on the road.

Nebraska is set up to be that Top 15 team that fails miserably. There's one every year.

They will have three or four losses in the regular season. No O and they are missing the one guy that did everything for them (Suh). Crick was the beneficiary of Suh getting double teamed on the line, so he'll be blocked again this year.

I'll go out on a limb and say Pelini throws his name in the hat for the LSU gig. Bo hasn't had the greatest recruiting success the past few years, and he's still playing with Clownahan's players. The program isn't set up real well for the future. The rumor mill has it that his brother (a coordinator) has pissed off some of the regents too, but you can take that as you will.

Iowa has the schedule working for them. All of their B10 road games are against the conference pumps. They have PSU, tOSU, and Wisky at home, and Kinnick is truly a home-field advantage. I don't see them getting to the BCS CG though.

And if Phil Steele didn't tell you how great Phil Steele was, nobody would notice. He could cut the price of that preview rag in half if he took out the articles stroking his own ego.

That would be interesting... I wonder if that is a job Muschamp would leave his hat in the ring for?

I bet Muschamp would. Mack Brown isn't going anywhere, and wasn't there a new 'coach-in-waiting- rule that was passed earlier this year? Something about salary??

I wonder if Muschamp throws in for the Gawwwgia gig if that comes open too. Jury is still out on Muschamp- he's only been on good teams, but never for a really long time. I guess you could probably say that about any hot name with only coordinator experience.

Just my opinion, but I'd be willing to bet that LSU comes open. Either Les will be canned OR he will take over Michigan, just looking for a new start. Michigan would be all over a 9-3 coach with a BCS Champs ring...even if he didn't really do much to earn it.

There will be some high profile jobs open after this year, no doubt about it. Let's see- LSU, UGA, Michigan, Illannoy, maybe K-State and Penn State, and I wouldn't be surprised if Lame gets canned by Pat Hayden now that he's at USC. Hayden seems like a guy that will run a tight ship and not put up with the BS that Kiffin likes to run.

Nebraska needs a QB. I don't see them getting out of the north division unbeaten. Most likely, Mizzou-Rah beats them. That loss to Navy in the Houston Bowl hopefully has stirred Mizzou for Big 12 North title run.

Navy is a good team, and that was just a straight up beatdown. Glad there isn't an option team like that in the B12.

Nebraska has several problems, and not having a QB is just the beginning. They will miss Suh more than any of their fans realize. They were close to losing three or four last year that they ended up pulling out. Subtract Suh, and youre looking at at least two more in-conference losses.

I think Mizzou was better than Navy last year. Hopefully Gabbert stays healthy and they find some playmakers at WR. Losing Alexander is tough.

Yeah, losing DaNario hurts, but I think it also means that Gabbert will just spread the passes out more. Wes Kemp is in that same Alexander mold- tall, can run, good hands. He should be our #1. Jerrell Jackson is a solid receiver that got overlooked last year and will be the #2. Remember this name: Rolandis Woodland. He is a burner. Could turn into Jeremy Maclin 2.0.

I really think this is the best overall crop of Mizzou receivers. Lacks the big star power we've had the past three or four years with Maclin and DaNario, but overall, it's easily the best.

I think the one thing Mizzou was really missing at times last year was good TE play. Mizzou's had some great TE's during the Pinkel era, and Andrew Jones was a 5* coming in. Was good in spots in '08, but really disappeared last year. Egnew and Brinkley have pushed him, and word is that Jones has improved dramatically. That will help.

Just a feeling, but I think Gabbert stays all four years. With the NFL lockout looming for '11 (and the money that drafted players receive being a huge issue) and his brother signing on to play at Mizzou, Gabbert stays. No need to go in this draft. I think several underclassmen that will be 'on the fence' about jumping in the draft pool will decide to stay in college this year.

I find it kind of funny that most UT fans claim Mizzou as their B12 team, and most Mizzou fans root for UT in the SEC.

I've heard from so many friends here in Knoxville that they have family in Missouri, so they root for Mizzou, and Tiger fans in Missouri have family in Tennessee, so they root for the Vols.
