Too long didn't read warning but I need to just vent a bit. Listen, I get it. I'm so sick of losing to UF, sick of losing to UGA, sick of losing to Bama. Us Vols fans have been more than enough patient the past 15 years. Hell, I only started watching the Vols in 2007! Little did I know, it'd mostly be down hill since then.

I find it just as embarrassing to look up our record vs UF the past 30 years as anyone else. But the reality is the past is something this current staff can't fix. They can only focus on the now and future. At a glance 38-14 looks just like another "uncompetitive" blowout loss to a major rival. I get that. I won't sugar coat it. It was ugly. However, anyone that knows football saw our staff draw up several plays that were quite literally "dropped". Make no mistake, I'm not saying if the players make those plays we win, but it certainly would of been a nail biter late into the game.

Think about that, this staff had a gameplan, despite being severely underhanded to take UF on the road to the wire. But the players didn't execute. In my moment of being pissed off, I even called for these WRs to have their scholarships yanked. I apologize for that. The moment was just too big for some of these young guys. I don't do moral victories, I'm not gonna celebrate a game because we simply played hard. That should be expected.

But. It's 4 games in year 1 and CJH has already shown he knows more about how to call a football game than any of our previous coaches since Lane. It'd be the easy thing to do later with our home games to "not show up" but let's get behind this new team and watch them grow and get better. It's our only option fellow Vols fans. There will still be a lot of embarrassing moments and heartbreak the next couple years, but if we can get away from the overwhelming negativity, I think CJH can get us back to respectability. Give the man time, it's a big rebuild.

Yes, we have been rebuilding for 15 years. But that is not on our current staff and players. Next week is a huge game, we beat Mizzou and you can argue we are on track for a 6-6 season. I get that it's sad that's what the bar has become, but it is what it is. A 6-6 season would be a great accomplishment given the roster. The play calling and schemes are there, and eventually the players will execute. I'm not saying we are gonna win championships the next few years, but all we can do is appreciate the slow climb out of the bottom. Just put things is perspective. I'm not saying never get pissed or negative in the moment, because at the end of the day we are all humans. It happens. But lets try to understand where we are. Keep wearing that orange proudly.

I dont have an issue with this coaching staff. I think they have a chance. I have an issue with our idiotic administration that sold us out to the NCAA just to avoid a buyout. They have made it impossible for us to recruit on the level we need to compete with the other top programs in the SEC.

I agree Heupel needs time, however the fact of the matter is that Florida didn't execute either, especially in the first half. If we played a perfect game and they played the way they did, sure, it could have been close. However, if we had both played perfect games, the score would have probably been about the same. They are just much better than we are at this point in time. It is what it is.

Nice post.

Just once though, it would be nice to see the Vols pull off the big upset.

In a Saturday that saw Bowling Green knock off MN at 38 point dogs, NC ST beat Clemson, WV take OK to the wire, Arkansas beat a top 10 Aggie team, NC get blasted by GA Tech it shouldn't be considered impossible for the Vols to knock someone off occasionally.

The coaching staff is fine.

We lack talent to hang with the big boys of the SEC.

The offense can work if the execution is there.
. The coaching staff is not fine the defensive coordinator hire Tim Banks was bad for one and other than Rodney Garner this staff is a low level AAC conference staff. It’s not a SEC caliber coaching staff unless you like being a bottom feeder team.

Disagree Florida played well the first half too. We just made plays to hang in there with them. It wasn't on UF that the game was tight, it was us making it that way. Then we couldn't sustain.

Banks has made the defense better than I thought they would be. Look at our D roster, no coach is gonna do much better. Promise lol

. The defense only looked good against two cupcakes in the Pitt game their QB picked up apart all day and last nite Florida ran all and threw all over us to the tune of 550 yards of total offense.

You really don't know much about the sport if you believe that

Yeah and? Reality check. We don't have the players to have a good defense anyways. I'll take holding the UFs to 31 (minus garbage time). I thought it would be worse this year.

I'm fine with the coaching staff because I see progress but mostly I see players that want to win and give it 100%. Yes there were mistakes and dropped balls in particular but I feel we will get better and with some good recruiting next year to build on, the future is more promising than what I've seen from the Dooley era to last year.

We had 423 yards total offense against Florida's defense so does that mean Florida's defense is bad. Our defense isn't great but it's not bad either considering the overall talent we have. Coach Banks and company deserve a lot of credit with what that did last night. The offensive inconsistencies put our undermanned defense in bad positions.

With all due respect, I don't think this post is as necessary as you think. PLEASE don't misread my reply here. It should actually be confidence for you about VN. I think virtually everyone agrees with you and understands its game 4.

We are in for a long, bumpy ride no matter what happens. What good does complaining do for you or anyone else?

Agreed. Heupel and this staff has work to do with their coaching decisions no doubt. But things seem to be changing for the good. I hope it continues. I am behind them until they give me a reason not to be.

We weren’t supposed to be able to run at all on Florida. We didn’t put the points on the board when the shots were there. Statistically we performed better vs Florida than Alabama did offensively with no depth and no talent. I posted this earlier because it is worth looking at.

I think your post should reinforce some encouragement and excitement that things may be changing for the good. A loss is still a loss no matter how you slice it. However looking at this has to instill a little bit of hope for the future I would think.

to me, if we improve on three things, we're going to have our chances to win some games
1. QB accuracy improves
2. WR drops improve
3. Unforced error penalties are killing us...not "effort" penalties, but the ones where we're in the red zone and we jump off sides type penalties. That needs to improve.

I would say tackling, but I think b/c we aren't sustaining drives, the D is gassed by the time late 3rd quarter rolls around. 3 and out's kill the D in this offense.

It shows pure coaching. A lot of young inexperienced guys on both sides of the ball. They are playing at a higher level above their abilities so far than the players that started over them that jumped ship. I still believe we will beat everyone left on this schedule except for UGA, Bama, & Ole Miss.

It's a classic fan trap to imagine what might have been had we played a perfect game, but don't kid yourself for a second into thinking Florida played a perfect game last night either. Mullen didn't think so and said so, and he's right. I agree with what I believe is your overall sentiment, that you are encouraged, despite the score, and think this staff has potential, so am I.

I didn't say they played perfectly. But don't kid yourself saying we were only in the game the first half because Florida wasn't executing. They only had one mistake and that was the fumble.
