India Graduates Millions, but Too Few Are Fit to Hire - WSJ.com

But 75% of technical graduates and more than 85% of general graduates are unemployable by India's high-growth global industries, including information technology and call centers, according to results from assessment tests administered by the group.

Another survey, conducted annually by Pratham, a nongovernmental organization that aims to improve education for the poor, looked at grade-school performance at 13,000 schools across India. It found that about half of the country's fifth graders can't read at a second-grade level.

That's what he did for a theory-of-computation exam, and shortly after, he says the examiner called him and offered to pass him and his friends if they paid 10,000 rupees each, about $250. He and four friends pulled together the money, and they all passed the test.

I would be willing to bet that covers all three languages they learn in school: Hindi, English, and their state's native tongue.
That's what I was confused about. Did the test/tests cover multiple languages, or just one of them? That could have a big impact on the results.

All you need is for your support to be India one time and you can figure this out.

Bingo! I was looking to maybe switch from AT&T to Sprint a few weeks ago until i called their help center. They couldn't even tell me the packages they could offer me, so i told them i had to go and hung up, frustrating deal.
They should at least require these people to speak English in a way i can understand it.

Outsourcing typically saves a company anywhere from 5-15% of payroll costs. That's it. Get rid of the Federal Minimum Wage and I guarantee most outsourcing goes away.

any front line support is going to be worthless. I work just down the hall from ours and can troubleshoot my issues better than their script ever could. Once you get past them things get much better. I also deal with them on software integration/development and have no complaints (besides the time difference and the v/w thing throwing me off but I've gotten used to it)
