Other than the free tickets and getting to partake in a good tailgate with a co-worker of mine who went to school there and lives in CS, the visit there in 2016 was the weirdest I’ve ever been on. I love tradition and history as much as anyone but their’s is beyond uncomfortable. Their devotion to dead alums, specifically veterans, is just odd and above patriotic. They do muster every month or quarter at their basketball arena, for alums who have died, and my co-worker and his family attend these on regularity whether they knew anyone or not. If you haven’t seen or heard about “Fish Camp”, Google it. This is where incoming FR go off campus before the semester begins and learn all the cheers and gyrations. It is so cultish it’s scary.
