Did they give the $$ back to the Athletic Dept. Did they explain why they took it in the first place? How does this change things for our Athletic Dept?

The practice of Athletics giving to the schools is practiced at UT and most other Institutions
The school did not really "give back" cash to the Athletic Department
This is really an accounting trick and private donors will now cover "expenses" that used to be covered by Athletics
Please do not think that since this was announced a check exchanged hands as that is not how a major University handles the finances
The AD is BROKE which explains alot

We give a lot more money to the Academic side than what a lot of other schools do. WE had to pay a whole lot of money for Fulmer's buyout and now Dooley's along with other minor sports firings, plus an empty football stadium equals empty bank account...

plus the academic side was hurting when the athletic side was booming, then it flipped and the AD was still giving which made very little sense. Now it is making more sense just 3-4 years too late...

We only"know" what we have been told and even at a Public University , the TRUTH in the finance is never fully revealed and often a shuffling trick
Facts:
We have sold less season tickets and the boosters money behind the tickets
We were not shown on TV in other parts of the Country as a regular/prime time game
We made bad hires and are paying our way out of multiple contracts
We udated Neyland Stadium
We have a New training facility

It's been alot of decisions and timing of the economy etc

Can someone explain how we exactly got broke?

Admin. still gets paid a lot no matter what the product on the field shows.

I bet if their yearly salary was to drop due to performance, we would have a lot different decisions being made.

No offense as I think this makes for a great read but with all Universities finances the devil is in the details

It depends how serious you are about really wanting to know and how deep you want to get into the details. At a minimum, you probably need to go back a few years and work forward. Again, try requesting the approved financial statements from the University. Here is an example of what you might find by doing basic research on the internet.

I don't think the school actually is giving the AD any $ back. The AD just doesn't have to give its $6 million annual contribution to the school for 3 years.

If dumb azz Jimmy Cheek would realize that at UT, academics depend on the success of the sports programs he wouldn't be so damn incompetent. When football is successful then the academic side is successful.

So are the administrative free loaders going to ante up for their sky box seats next year? I know that there is a lot of free food up there but it looks like Cheek brings his own snacks anyway.
