Have not been to my first Mercer football game yet and we're already switching conferences. Can't wait to tailgate in Johnson City and the Nooga in 2014.

I'd like to see West Georgia, Shorter and Valdosta State eventually wind up in the Southern Conference. Kennesaw State will be starting football soon and they could be a possibility in the future

Absolutely huge for Mercer. Insane to think that they're going from no football program to the Southern Conference this quickly.

Not at all unusual for Southern Conference members to play at an SEC school. I think UTC is playing Bama this year. Just thinking about the possibility of going to see a game like that is pretty amazing. I might have to make a t-shirt that says "That is our real team!"

The Citadel beat South Carolina 38-35 in 1990

yep that is awesome first time since 1941.. very happy to see that quick movement for them. i can't wait for kennesaw to start playing football. there is plenty of instate talent to support those programs. i have one question for you, what's your opinion of mercer's baseball head coach Craig Gibson?

Honestly, I don't follow the baseball team like I do basketball, but I'd say he's doing something right. The loss in the A-Sun tourney was tough though.

thanks.. uga fired perno and i know there was a handful of guys i liked and i had mercer's head coach in my top 5.. we hired scott stricklin from kent state which was my #2 guy so it worked out. mercer is a heck of a baseball coach man.. you guys are in great shape. also we have played mercer yearly it seems and your basketball coach is another good coach. Mercer has done a very good job in who they have leading their programs.

do you know why elon left for the CAA? I live close to kennesaw state and i am sooo excited about them starting a football team. it's going to be great to see some Owl football. :)

Strickland is a great hire. I can't imagine him not being number one on all list.

Who was your top choice??

I know in the last few years alone UTC has played at Bama, Oklahoma, and Florida State.

It was more of a 1a/1b option. Coach Brian O'Connor (virginia) had 1 year left on his contract and is only being paid just 240k and i have a lot of respect for him as well. Yeah Scott Stricklin was a great hire. A number of guys know him and he is well respected in Georgia.
