Tennessee freshman shortstop Meghan Gregg has been named a Top 25 Finalist for the 2015 NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award.

Gregg Is Freshman of Year Top 25 Finalist - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics

Gregg's numbers are:
Games played 43, 133 at-bats, hitting .338 with 9 homers, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 38 RBIs, 34 runs, 14 walks, 2 stolen bases .639 slugging %, .395 on-base %, and 12 errors.

Fellow freshman Scarlet McSwain's numbers are comparable or better in less games played:
Games played 39, 93 at-bats, hitting .333 with 10 homers, 6 doubles, 1 triple, 29 RBIs, 29 runs, 14 walks, 4 stolen bases .742 slugging %, .466 on-base %, and 7 errors.

Alabama and LSU both had 2 freshman on the list. I think McSwain belongs on this list.

Make a good case.

Well...regardless of who deserves what. It's not the way thing are done there. Gregg, McClain, And Edell big splash publicity...that's who's going to get the attention. mcSwain will have to get 20 HR before she overtakes the front page kids. BTW....why isn't McClain starting?? And where is Edell??? McSwain just has to keep it together and hang in there. The good part is she's playing and doing very well.

The biggest shock of the season is that McClain did not start this season. She should be in there.

Who is "Edell"? Do you mean Jessica Adell? She has appeared in a total of 10 games for the LV's according to the UT softball site.

McClain has appeared in 40 games but has only 14 at-bats with three hits.

Why should either player be on the list?

I believe it was after the Mary Nutter tournament in California that Ralph said McClain was "behind" and had to "catch up". I don't know what he meant. She gets to the plate about once every three or four games although she makes frequent appearences in the outfield. There has to be a reason she isn't getting more playing time.

Over who? Lewis is your best defensive outfielder and hits over .300. Ditto for Gaffin. Overstreet had been outstanding since taking over in left and has key hits this year. Geathers is in that rotation as well and she's the leading hitter by average right now.

McClain has come on defensively when Gaffin has pitched, but she hasn't beat out the other players.

Adell...maybe I've missed it but haven't even seen her in the dugout on TV.
