I've been following this lately too. Just saw it yesterday in the local paper.

You know, 20 million for 33 tanks and ammo might be cutting a deal when you think about it. How much do one of those Russian tanks run now-a-days?

i saw this as well. i heard that they got mad at each other and opened fire on one another killing 3. they are smart

It will happen again. I think we might be slightly more likely to be attacked if Obama is president, those that believe he has some strong ties to the Muslim world are kidding themselves if they think the extremists will see in him an ally. Just the opposite, they will see him as a man who turned his back on Islam.

The only reason it would make sense to me that we might be more likely to be targeted for an attack is the impression he might be inexperienced or weak, you can certainly expect some type of action to test the waters for Obama's response.

To be fair I expect some kind of action to test McCain though too, just to test the waters.

The local paper here in College Station reported that the cargo included 33 Soviet Tanks and ammunition for each of them. As far as Chemical or Biological weapons or materials to produce them, I have no idea. All I heard about was the tanks, so I too found this linked article interesting.

I can't imagine that pirates would have much use for tanks... I guess if they can get their hands on diesel fuel they could take the country over.

I think they are two different ships... One carries tanks+ammo, the other some mysterious chemical

I really think they are in it strictly for the money. From these reports I have seen on the net, and in the paper, these guys didnt have a well thought out escape plan. It looks like they were focused on plan A and threw plan B off the boat when they got on it.

The one I read about it is a Ukrainian cargo off the coast of Somolia. It is said to be the MV Faina.

This will be Bush's problem first. As far as being attacked, I'd agree with you though.

The pirates around the coastal waters of many African countries are quite prevalent... watched a show about them on History or Discovery a couple of months back. It can get really crazy.
