I have no sources, I am not in the know and I am certainly no insider. I am very skeptical of this whole Gruden story and I'm not 100% sure I'd even want him if it were possible (that's more about the transition from pro to college game and vice versa). However, I see a lot of folks speculating on a timeline and a lot of impatience on an announcment. If Gruden was my guy and we had agreed in principle on the terms of the contract, in other words, if it really was a done deal at this point, that would be huge news and would likely dominate the headlines for several days. With that in mind and seeing as college football these days is about making an impact, I would make this announcment at a time when it's impact would be at it's highest. I would wait until December 1st and make the formal announcement during the first half of the SECCG when Alabama and Georgia are likely playing for the right to be in the BCSNCG. Imagine the halftime show for that game, imagine the post game show and now imagine all of the potential recruits watching that game. If I had Gruden in my back pocket that's how I'd do it.

Also if Gruden really is the guy and they don't do this, then that likely means a late December announcment when MNF is over.

I want to hear Gruden deny that he is going to become our next coach. Then and ONLY then will I believe that he is headed to Ktown!

Like I said, I'm not even sure I really want him, but in recruiting terms and positive national attention, there is really no downside.

I think what a lot who remain skeptical about Gruden's college coaching ability don't realize is that he really won't do THAT much with the players, or should I say doesn't HAVE to. He will bring in a huge coaching staff that has been proven to develop players. Truthfully Gruden will be a recruiting piece that can take film and spit out what needs to be shown to the team/a player. Though I believe from his recruiting camps he can work with players effectively, it still remains that the necessity for him to do so is not there.

OP I agree, the week leading up to the SECG would be prime time for the announcement to take place, it would likely make half time reports and multiple comments throughout the game. That kind of exposure can be nothing but good for us, however with Gruden's ESPN gig I don't see it happening unless ESPN decides to be kind and let him go, which I doubt will happen especially if he goes to UT.

I don't know that there's much ESPN can do if he decides to leave, assuming that is the case. If he has made a decision and the announcement is forth coming, I would imagine that any sort of road block holding up the announcement would have already been taken care of. I also don't buy into this idea that ESPN hates us, it's all a matter of perspective and we as fans, are easily offended when our team is shown in a negative light (of which there has been plenty of negativity surrounding the program the past 4 years; Bruce pearl and multiple football coaches to name a few), that being said it would feel kind of satisfying to wrestle away one of their own. I feel like if it is Gruden then we will know either right before or during the SECCG, although if we don't hear anything then that doesn't mean he isn't coming, if it's anyone else I would expect the announcement to be made mid-December at the latest.
