:realmad: In between the Iowa-UF game and the VTech-Louisville game, I've seen some of the worst officiating ever.

Florida:

Poor spot giving UF a first down..at least a yard and a half longer than the play, a phantom helmet-to-helmet, and the onside kick bs.

VT-Louisville:

A HORRIBLE pass interference call that let to the complete turnaround of the game, ultimately leading to UL's loss.

I agree that it looked like Iowa got cooked. As for VaTech, I saw many more questionable calls go in favor of Louisville in the first half. I don't think it would have been a close game if you take away the questionable calls against VaTech. The penalty you mention was a bad call but I can see how it happened because the defender did not look at the ball and he was playing his man so tight that the official probably assumed he pushed him.

If I were Kirk Ferentz I would be furious about the officiating in the Outback Bowl. The Gators got plenty of gifts from the C-USA officals today.

Don't forget the "stop" Marcus Vick pulled in the VT game. That deserved an ejection.

The fumble/spot/incompletion fiasco in the Sugar Bowl was pretty bad, as well.

All in all, I thought there was an abundance of poor officiating in this year's bowl games, and I haven't even addressed the Michigan/Nebraska game yet.

One of the most interesting plays I've seen in a long time, and with all the Nebraska team and lots of civilians on the field, there should have been a flag and one more play.

An issue thats apparently kept on the down-low is ...What checks n balances are there in place to make sure refs are competant, and not influencing games with calls?...Do they have a higher authority to answer to?...If so whats the structure? any 1?

Granted that game had terrible officiating, but Michigan guys were out on the field too. Offsetting penalties are disregarded if the playclock runs out.
