Let's say that Gruden does come here and he is successful as we all imagine. Is anyone concerned that an NFL team will come calling and he will bolt and leave us searching for another coach? Don't get me wrong, I want him too but that concern does linger. At least for me.

Well, since he could go to the NFL now, I wouldn't be so worried. If he comes here, it's because he wants to be here.

Plus, if the rumors are true and he wants a 10 year contract, then that's even better indication that he wants to be here for the long haul.

so you're worried he would be so successful that an NFL team would come after him? If that's the case then UT would be in a great position for the next search. At least in a better spot than we are now

True, but with coaching searches come problems like recruits and coaches leaving. What if we botch the next hire or make a good hire that doesn't pan out? Then we are almost back to where we started albeit in a little better position since we at least had a few years of success. The longevity of the contract that he reportedly wants does make me feel a little better though. Just thoughts. If he comes, I doubt he leaves for a while but after the last few years, I'm used to getting screwed over by one thing or another.

The concern is kind of there, but any great coach will be pursued every year. You have to get the best and work the contract so it's harder for them to leave with a substantial financial penalty that will deter other teams from paying for him. It will be nice to have a wanted coach again.

Also, we can't continue to opporate with a scarcity mindset in the AD by playing it safe. Swing for the fence if you want championships. That means you risk getting a coach that others will want as well.

If he is asking for a 10 year contract, if Hart is smart he makes sure to have a very large buyout coming to UT if Gruden left before his contract was up. Much the same way I would do to Petrino if he were an option. If Gruden wants a 10 year commitment from UT, we need the same in return.

Good question but since CJG could probably land 4-6 pro gigs at the end of this season, why would he need being coach in Ktown on his resume?

Let's not put the cart in front of the horse :)

It's actually a legit concern if he were here. It's true he could go to the NFL now, but what if an opportunity to win another Super Bowl in Year 1 came up (like the one at Tampa)? He might be tempted. Remember, most of the NFL jobs he could take now are with mediocre or poor clubs. (And jobs with top clubs don't come open that often.)

But still ... I'd rather have 5 years of Gruden and have him bolt to try to win a Super Bowl, than 0 years of Gruden.
