Being realistic, we are most likely going to lose some recruits with the coaching turnover this off season. Be assured, Coach Kiffin will find some great replacements. We have a great coaching staff right now, but there is other great coaches that want to be a part of this, just like last year. Remember, just as some recruits will leave with our assistants, new recruits will come with the new assistants Kiffin hires. The sky is not falling. :hi:

We need some former tennessee players or someone who has strong emotions bonds to this university not guys wanting to make a name for themselves and using monte as a career builder.

I like your optimism. The problem is that guys at South Florida will not be able to bring in the same level of HS relationships that Eddie Gran had.

Here is the bottom line, we can and will replace Frank Wilson with an upgrade.

Unless we spend lots more money (closer to 250-300k instead of 175k) we will not approach replacing Gran with someone better than him.

This line of thinking died with Fulmer. This coaching situation is similar to one-and-done players in NCAA basketball. You hate it that they are going to leave but you want to have them while they are here for the success they can bring and the high national profile.

We want guys that are ambitious and are on the rise. We want to become a school where good coaches come to prove their worth and elevate their stature.

We will be a powerhouse if we can continue to attract the type of coaches that Lane had on staff this year. As long as Kiffin and Monte are loyal to UT then everything will be just fine.

The key is to replace them quickly and for the coaches to quickly decide whether or not to move on. That situation will have the smallest impact on recruiting.

With the tie ins that CFW had to recruits, do we hire someone with their own ties to bring in...like on Luc with Eddie Gran and his effect on FL ST's recruiting Luc too? Strengthen our position in recruiting and add a solid position coach or just go for the position coach (a Tee Martin or Vol alum type) who isn't tied into the same recruiting channels.

I think if we can keep the core of this staff intact we'll be fine. There are plenty of quality coaches/recruiters interested in this program now that the "fat" has been trimmed.

I don't think that a connection with one recruit is going to be a factor in hiring someone. No. If it happens by coincidence that would be icing on the cake. JMO.

Yes, the pivotal guys are Lane and Monte and they aren't going anywhere. This staff will attract good coaches too. We will replace Wilson and possibly Gran with "as good" coaches.

I have to look back at Bama here after the Bear. Thats all Bama fans would be happy with was someone to coach that played for the bear. Look what it eventually did for their program. I don't want Tennessee to fall in the same situation.

Sabs, I'm relatively new at posting on here, but I've been reading and enjoying your posts for awhile. With FW leaving, and if Gran were to go, do you think we lose a big name recruit?

As for staff turnover, I think it can be a good thing as it helps to avoid complacency. We all saw what complacency did to the former staff.

Coach Gran is a great coach and possibly our best recruiter. We need to pay him to stay. He is worth it. As far as former players being on staff, I don't know of any former players coaching anywhere for smaller programs. I would be all for giving an up and coming former player coach a shot if he spent time actually coaching and was serious about it. I think you hire the best coach available, not a sentimental favorite to make the fans happy. If there were former UT players capable of being positon coaches, don't you think Fulmer would have used them? Afterall, he was only a coach here forever. Why would Lane want to use someone that doesn't know his system or have experience. We need to keep Gran by any means necessary. If he goes to FSU, that will hurt our recruiting in South Florida. He also developed many great RB's. Look at Hardesty this year and let's hope Brown/Oku are the next Cadillac/Brown.

Yes, that could definitely happen, but now you are going to ask me who and I don't know the answer to that.

Willie Gault
Tim McGee
Carl Pickens
Cory Fleming
Marcus Nash
Cedric Wilson
etc.................

This looks like a list of people qualified to coach an 8th grade team, not a list that would be of interest to Kiffin

I think that Ron Zook will be looking for a job soon. He is a bad head coach but a very good recruiter. Although, I think that he is primarily a defensive coach.

Despite my disagreements with him, Hat seems to have some good info. Larry (LWS) is excited enough that I think the hire may already be done. I would be guessing a South Florida guy.

First of all, I don't have near the info that Sab has. I have heard that CLK might be interested in Central Florida running backs coach David Kelly. Kelly has worked with a couple of the current UT staff before...
