I want a music setup in my kitchen/open dining space.

So is Sonos the route to go or are there better suggestions from some of you tech/music lovers?

Top flight sound quality still can't be produced via wireless connections. But it's decent for general use. I've only owned my house for a couple years and on my list is to install some speakers (hard wired)

My Dad uses Sonos for his pool area. It's awfully convenient.

Hmmm...top flight?

Think I'll really notice a difference from wired? I play streaming music on my TV via my DVD player all the time and it sounds good to me.

I think it's fine. Like GA said its convenient. From a "tech/audiophile" perspective wireless generally can't match top quality sound. But for general use Sonos is very good.

Ok, gotcha. For family listening and just enjoyable audio sounds like it will do.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any cons or alternative systems they'd suggest.

Thanks.

The NuVo systems are fantastic. I have the Grand Concerto with 8 zones, hard drive that interfaces with iTunes, Sirius/XM, Spotify, and TuneIn. The keypads are easy to use, but you can also control it from a laptop or smartphone.

Agree 100%. My system has switches that will take over better speakers in key listening areas. That being said, the I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the NuVo ceiling speakers.

Good to know. I've been considering a Sonos set up.

As you we'll know, I'm the last guy to look to for tech advice. But it's nice to be able to go over there and control everything from my phone.

Sonos can be pricy when piecing stuff together but it is an excellent product. I have set up many many sonos systems in various homes and businesses. Highly recommend it.

I just plug my iPod into my guitar amp and voila! Whole house music!
My bedroom setup has a Bose docking station.

Do you need to plug them in or does it have a rechargeable battery?

Plug. Connect a Sonos Bridge into your wireless router and you can just plug a speaker in anywhere within wireless range and it will work.

(By speaker I mean a Play1,Play3,Play5, Sub and Soundbar)

To make sure I understand, you definitely need a bridge? How much range will do the speakers have with a bridge?

Given a 900 sq ft room, is a single play5 or two play3s set up in stereo a better option?

You defiantly need a bridge. It will cover basically as much as your network. With the 900 sqft room, I would go with the two threes. You can place them on opposite sides and balance the music as compared to having the one play five and unequal sound level.

The speakers can perform the same function as the bridge. If you plan to put a speaker in the room with the router, there is no need for the bridge. They often run deals for free bridges with the purchase of one of the speakers though.

You have to have the bridge to connect the systems.

No you don't. A speaker acts as a bridge for other speakers if it is connected to the router.

Yah if you happen to have access to your router and want one speaker permanently by the router. It's worth it to just get the bridge and not worry about it.

Our house had Sonos set up as part of the Tour of Homes, and it came with it when we bought it..Seemed like a pain in the ass, so I was having the same company that put it in, do my surround sound and set up all the TV's...so instead of paying them to hook up 4 TV's around the house and surround sound in the living room and patio, I gave them the Sonos back
