We are planning on closing on our first home the end of October. My wife and I compromised that she could decorate the nursery her way until he was 1... after that, I get accomplish my lifelong dream of having a Tennessee room! Here is what we are thinking, and please add comments(positive/negative).

Paint room Smokey gray.
Add white bead board around bottom of wall.
Tennessee power T fathead over twin bed
Eric Berry fathead on opposite wall
Astroturf wall with replica shield watkins field(checkerboard, power t)
Orange rope lights along top of walls.
I have most newspaper headlines from the '98 season I want to frame and mat to hang around the room also.
Eric berry and marlin lane signed footballs to go on top of painted orange/white dresser.

What ya think?

I would go with an orange room. They honestly don't look as bad or as loud as they sound.

I wouldn't use beadboard, other than that sounds fine. If you want a real UT room go with orange.

go with orange. also, if you are good at painting (or have the time) you can paint some checkerboards near the top of the wall. It will obviously take more time, but it looks cool imo. My mom did it for my brother's room a while back and it really looks good (granted my mom likes doing stuff like that)

I might try to make a little mockup in MS paint in case that's hard to undertand

EDIT:

it's rudimentary, but you can get the idea (and perhaps change/improve the design)

Sounds impressive. I am in the process of painting a checkerboard wall this week -- found some great painting tape advice online. Will post pics when complete. Oh, and congrats!

I've grown to like gray on walls.

I don't think the VolNation crew is going to come inspect your house and make a thread on how you used the wrong tint of gray. :)

Pick a gray out that you like and are happy with and go with it.

Actually... I probably wouldn't now that I think about it. :)

After seeing the football forum after a game just about anything could happen.

Now you're learning.

I would imagine if you give any reputable paint vendor the numbers they could match it (I don't have a clue what the numbers really mean)

Smokey- from UT's website
PMS 426
CMYK 0 0 0 85
HEX 4C4D4F

Buy something smokey gray, take it to a store like Sherwin Williams and see if they can shoot and match the color. Problem solved.

So what happens when the kid turns 3 and wants a Thomas the Train room? Are you going to redecorate again?

FWIW the wife and I had a kitchen painted UT orange once. It was nice.

Sounds awesome. We are in the process of making my son's room an overall sports theme. Of course UT will have a major part in it.
