Pearl knew he was a thug. Why do you think he signed with MSU? That is the second chance university. But you are right he will end of at OK State because their coach feels that if he can't stay sober and clean, then he shouldn't expect that from his players either. I mean if James On/Off Curry can go right in there an play after that fiasco, then Gordon will be a model citizen as far as OK State is concerned. What a crap school that is. Gordon and Curry will somehow stay out of trouble long enough to play some hoops and then will be back on the streets selling some Ks and then will be All-Penal league in a few years. :gun:

Reported by who??? And do you know when it supposedly happened?

I see nothing about this anywhere on the internet.

I will feel ripped off if this "report" turns out to be a load of manure.

I'd give Curry a 2nd chance over what Coach Fulmer is doing with our football team: giving a guy a 3rd or 4th chance after multiple fights and assaults.

Selling pot isn't near as bad as having a habit of beating up others. Now THAT is thuggery in every sense of the word.

I also like the attitude taken towards a guy who has beaten alcoholism (so far). Show me some evidence that Sutton can't stay sober? He has said that battling alcoholism is a daily thing, like many recovering alcoholics say. Nice job of twisting his words around.

Oh, and let's see. The only time UT men's basketball had "thugs" on the team, we went to the NCAA Tournament 4 straight years. Buzzball-- no thugs, no NCAA appearances, and no NIT victories either.

I am excited that Coach Pearl will (hopefully) rebuild this program the right way. However, ripping a winning coach like Eddie Sutton is pretty lame, in my book.

Sutton is an amazing coach and person. Anyone who rips on him(especially for signing Curry) is in denial. Sutton has done great things for the program. Being a UNC fan, I wish we had kept Curry....they will be regreting it next year.

If you feel giving individuals 2nd and 3rd chances when state tax money is used to fund their education and in the case of Sutton his $1 million job, then I guess we beg to differ on morality. Curry sold dope and should not have been allowed to get a full ride without paying the consequences. You think if he was just some 17 year old kid that had no skills his fate would have been the same? If you do then keep dreaming. Or in fact go and visit the local prison and find out how many 1st time offenders for drug use and not drug sales you have there and you will be shocked. You think if you or I got kicked out of Oak Hill Academy for selling drugs that we would get a full ride like an academic scholarship to a 4yr school? And I am supposed to respect someone more because they admit to fighting what you call a disease day in and day out even though the majority of the rest of us in society make the CHOICE to stay clean? I will give you another example. The former bum coach at Iowa State. He was the highest paid official in Iowa at the time he got canned. He couldn't resist showing up at a frat party and hitting on the college girls. But yet in 1 year he ends up coaching at Southern Miss making large dollars. What? Bottom line is winning in college athletics is only one facet of a successful program. Winning the right way is the ultimate goal.

OK I am done with all of that. Hope things go well with Thomas this weekend. Pearl can then sandbag the other scholly for next year. Sorry if I offended anyone.

One last thing. You mentioned Sutton has done great things for the university. I assume you mean winning games. Now assume he was under .500 every year and was fighting his drinking problems. Would he be more, less or the same in your book?

I'm not an MD, but Alcoholism has been considered a disease by the AMA for almost 50 years. Some people have a genetic predisposition to be addicted to alcohol and/or drugs. A mentally ill person who 'freaks out' in public is making a "choice" as well, but most of us realize that they have a problem that drives their behavior. Alcoholism is similar. But hey, believe whatever tickles your fancy.

And I don't condone belittling people fighting that disease, regardless of whether they are a coach or not, or how much they win or lose.

The point you just made is valid. However, you didn't address the questions he posed about giving kids 2nd and 3rd chances using MINE AND YOUR tax dollars. Not to mention the fact that kids without star basketball potential sure don't get those same chances.
