What little I watched lacked the charm of the original.

I bet NBC liked it!

'The Sound of Music Live!' Gives NBC its Best Thursday in Total Viewers Since 2004, Excluding Sports

via press release:

“The Sound of Music Live!” (4.6/13 in 18-49 and 18.470 million viewers overall) dominated the night with NBC’s best 18-49 Thursday average, excluding sports, since the night of the “ER” finale (5.2, April 2, 2009).

In total viewers, this is NBC’s best Thursday average excluding sports since May 13, 2004 (“Frasier” finale night, 22.597 million viewers).

Carrie Underwood is a terrible actress. She has star appeal, but the role would have been much better with actual broadway talent.

This.

She can sing no doubt, but her acting was horrible.

My wife kept defending her. She was fine during the singing and handled the choreography but line delivery was pretty bad. Considering it was live though I will cut her some slack.

I completely forgot to set the DVR for this. I think that was probably ok though since I watched the last 30 to 45 minutes of it and wasn't too impressed. The movie was far better naturally. Parts of it actually felt awkward.

so was it actually about Maria von Trapp and her family's escape Nazi controlled Austria to Switzerland?

It's not really fair to compare it to the movie. I'm glad they went the Live performance direction as opposed to an attempt to remake it.
