From ESPN:

Sources: Condoleezza Rice among members of first College Football Playoff selection committee - ESPN

The College Football Playoff selection committee will have some star power as former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will join former NFL quarterback Archie Manning and USC athletic director Pat Haden on the panel, sources told ESPN on Friday.

The 58-year-old Rice, who has made no secret of being a college and pro sports fan, will be included on the 12-to-18-member committee when it is officially announced next month as expected.

In addition, former Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese, athletic directors Barry Alvarez (Wisconsin), Jeff Long (Arkansas), Oliver Luck (West Virginia) and Dan Radakovich (Clemson), and former NCAA executive vice president Tom Jernstedt have been chosen to be on the College Football Playoff selection committee, sources told ESPN.

Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Gould, the former Air Force Academy superintendent, also will be on the committee, sources told The Associated Press.

Sources previously told ESPN that at least one athletic director from each of the five power conferences (ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC) would be represented on the committee.

The committee will be responsible for selecting the four teams that advance to the College Football Playoff beginning after the 2014 regular season, as well as ranking and placing at-large teams in the noncontract New Year's Day bowls (Cotton, Fiesta and Chick-fil-A).

This is the final year of the BCS.

College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock has said the selection committee would consist of current athletic directors, former players, coaches and administrators, and media members. Current commissioners and coaches will not be on the committee.

Hancock would not comment or confirm any of the individuals named by ESPN but said: "We are comfortable with where we are, but the process is not finished."

Rice's selection was first reported by The Associated Press.

Hancock would not comment; neither would any of the new committee members.

Rice, who has never worked in college athletics, frequently attends Stanford athletic events and meets with many of the athletes, including football players being recruited by the school. She's also been a volunteer coach for the golf team.

She was the national security adviser during President George W. Bush's first term and became secretary of state in his second term. She is now a professor of political economy at Stanford's Graduate School of Business.

The full selection committee and sites for the 2016 and 2017 championship games are expected to be announced Nov. 11 in Washington, D.C.

Four communities bid for the 2016 game: Glendale, Ariz.; Jacksonville, Fla.; New Orleans and Tampa, Fla. Six bid for the 2017 game: Jacksonville, Miami, Minneapolis, San Francisco, San Antonio and Tampa.

Yeah. And what it is is you being racist.

Lol ok. Black female chosen that's probably not even close to as qualified as 10000 other people, black or white, but she somehow gets the gig. Sorry I don't believe in affirmative action, political correctness, or anything that belittles the process of choosing the best person(s) for a job or anything else.

Except you're also ignoring the fact that she's also actually famous/somewhat a celebrity (as much as politicians more in the limelight are) in this case.

Honestly, it might have made more sense to argue this as pandering/ trying to get a name that's more recognizable to the general, non-sports fan public than affirmative action...

(edit: not that I'm arguing this point myself)

She's also extremely knowledge about sports, especially football. She's gone on record about waking up at 3am in Israel to watch the Super Bowl.

Watching the super bowl makes her a CFB expert?

I'm not impressed with the list as a whole, IMHO there should be some CFB writers, more retired coaches actual people who know and follow CFB.

I find it hard to believe an active AD has time to really focus on CFB around the country.

I question your credentials to question her credentials

I watched the Super Bowl at 6am while I was in Korea and I'm a big CFB fan.

Hey, I love Condy at one time I was hoping she would run for high office. I was just hoping the committee was going to consist of more people who's job it is to follow CFB every week.
