I generally like Pate, especially when he picks my Vols! He can tend to get on a soap box occasionally, otherwise his takes aren't too bad. Interesting analysis from him on what we might see Saturday. South Carolina's secondary is not good and they can't run the ball. I hope that continues this Saturday and we can get some pressure on Rattler!

we should be able to score on them... what scares me is they may be able to score on us as well if Rattler has time to throw.

They WILL score. We are a good defense that has lapses and gaps that can be exploited if no pressure on the QB. I have VOLS in a nail biter.

Our defense has to show up. We scored enough last year to win if our defense had had half a pulse. You can’t win a game if you give up TDs on damn near all of your opponents possessions.
Maybe it’s time for us to take a page out of the playbook of the teams that have challenged us the most. Run the ball, chew up six and seven minutes a drive and keep Rattler on the sideline

My caveat to that is that I expect UT to pressure the pocket. I'm more concerned about him running and throwing or running for yardage. On the other side, UT is more athletic at LB but not as experienced as the group that faced him last year.

The two things I'm looking for are if the DL can pressure him while maintaining their lanes and when they can't how the young LBs respond.

There are two major uncertainties going into this game: How we come out and play and how South Carolina comes out and plays. Sort of stating the obvious but inconsistent play is always a problem. If our crowd can get into the game and rattle the cocks early, we might see a first half like we suffered through in Florida. They have a patchwork OL so noise will cause problems and 1st and 15 is always a better down for our D than first and 10. We didn't hit Rattler very often last year but that needs to be different this year - he needs to be knocked down anytime he tries to throw downfield. I'm not sure if hitting him will have to same effect as it has on Joe but it's definitely something the front needs to do.

On offense our production on first down is extremely important. The plays we run (run vs pass) are based on defensive bodies in the box but sometimes we seem so nonchalant in our blocking for those run plays - we need better execution upfront so the backs can at least get past the los before they get hit. Joe needs a good game in his decision making and to stay focused on just winning each play. On first and second downs plays, if he can scramble for a sure five then take off vs holding the ball for the perfect play.

Joe Milton

needs to be in command of the Offense and accurate. Hopefully he is very healthy and can break off some runs for the positive.

Defense already knows their role after last year's performance.

Go Vols!

A win over South Carolina tomorrow night will help our recruiting efforts in the Palmetto State.
