Animals Recognized as Legal Persons for the First Time in U.S. Court

“Animals have the right to be free from cruelty and exploitation, and the failure of U.S. courts to recognize their rights impedes the ability to enforce existing legislative protections,” says Animal Legal Defense Fund Executive Director Stephen Wells. “The court’s order authorizing the hippos to exercise their legal right to obtain information in the United States is a critical milestone in the broader animal status fight to recognize that animals have enforceable rights.”

When we understand that most judges are nothing more than politicians with a law degree, then we will stop being surprised by their decisions

I, for one, am glad to hear that the women of Ohio now have a right to obtain information. Long past due imo.

I have met lawyers and Judges. One is a friend and even he will tell you, it don't take a smart person to pass law school or pass the bar.

Law school and the bar were fairly easy if you put in the time. I graduated in the top 15% and passed the bar easily. The whole it is so hard is perpetuated by attorneys.

As far as smart vs. stupid, as with any profession some people just get it. I knew people in law school that were in the top 5 (not percent) who I initially thought were not bright but somehow while most struggled they just got it.

From Good Will Hunting -

Will - "When you look at a piano do you see Mozart"

Skyler - "I see chopsticks"

"Okay, well Beethoven, he looked at a piano and it just made sense to him. He could just play."

"Are you saying you can play the piano?"

"No, not a lick. I mean, I look at a piano, I see a bunch of keys, three pedals, and a box of wood. But Beethoven, Mozart, they saw it, they could just play. I couldn’t paint you a picture, I probably can’t hit the ball out of Fenway, and I can’t play the piano."

"But you can do my O-Chem paper in under an hour"

"When it came to stuff like that I could always just play."

That is how I came to view those students. Not stupid, but when it came to truly "getting" how the law works... they could just play.

I see no reason four-legged people don't have the right to marry and have relations with two-legged people, then.
No wonder there's a ten-mile caravan of Oregonians headed for SW Ohio.

Does that mean we can draft them if they're humans?

"It don't take" ? If your friend is correct in his opinion, then you shouldn't have any trouble passing it. Your friend though, isn't correct.

Why would I want to take it? I don't want to spend the rest of my life as a POS.

Plus if my friend isn't correct that would make him dumb in your eyes right? Since he passed his that would mean a dumb person passed it.

I'm just assuming you have passed it? You seem the type to wear it as a badge of honour.
