Spacecraft lands on a Comet

That's pretty sweet right there. That should bring out the nerd in all of us.

Now, if we can only get Ben Affleck up there so he can blow himself up on it.

This is very cool and a big step in space exploration. This mission began 10 years ago...how great for all those involved.

It's impressive that it landed exactly on time too. Even after discovering the shape of the comet was not as originally thought. No

Comet is 2 miles wide so I think they couldn't miss hitting it with a washing machine size probe once it caught up with it.

And yet collegiate and professional basketball players occasionally throw up air balls from the free throw line. This is quite impressive imo.

Use blue font next time. At first I didn't detect the sarcasm.

I hope it was sarcasm, but it really didn't sound like it lol.

The comet is going roughly 84,000 mph. In space you can barely flick a finger off of a surface and you will travel nonstop and float off until an object with gravity to pull is reached.

The problem is with it going that fast and with the probe going at great speeds as well there isn't exactly a break you can just push to stop in space. It's a very delicate process of slowing down as you approach and trying to not just let the speed of each object collide and make the landing so rough that the probe is useless.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Not many can be that dumb. If he was a Bammer fan I'd believe he was serious.

Pretty awesome feat. 10 years in space to catch a comet and then a soft landing (more or less, the ESA said it bounced once) on the surface.

That's only the seventh object to ever have a lander put down in a controlled decent. I'm really curious as to what they find.

Just the math and timing involved in that trip is mind boggling.

No doubt. Hurts my head trying to think about it.

For those who think it was not a big deal. Go out to a 1000 meter range and try and hit a moving target the size of a basketball on the first shot.
