lets face it,there has been one punt return this year out of 7 punts,is it to blame on the returner ? or the lack of a blocking scheme ?

the Kick offs are doing good so far,I would like to see some go out of the end zone though,AJ and others don't need to be on the special teams, don't get me wrong they are doing excellent on them,I worry about injures with the extra playing time

and what about Medley as our kicker ? batting 60% right now,I did like that CBJ did put him in for another kick, after he missed his first try, which should bolster his confidence

I personally would like to have Devrin back on punt returns, but I'm not sure what the problem is there

Darr is doing a decent job so far, which is all you can say is decent,i thought he was lucky not to get that one blocked in the end zone and the Vols recovered it

the Vols will have to step it up come Saturday, what do ya'll think is wrong with the Special Team play?

Punt coverage is terrible. Every single punt there's 2-3 opponent jerseys within 10 yards of him as he catches.

I'm fine with a lot of fair catches if it means we don't have any turnovers in the return game

While coverage may not be great on punts, people are overstating the problem. When I watch the games, I'm seeing a bunch of high, decently short, wobbly knuckleballs being kicked at Sutton so far. These factors combine to make the odds of a return pretty thin. I'd wait and see how things look against some real punters before worrying too much!

A fair catch doesn't necessarily mean there was an issue with the coverage. Darr had also been punting pretty well. He'll get a couple of them to turn over and it will look much better

Seemed like both opposing punters had plenty of hang time. Agree with Indianapolis Vol. We haven't put it on the ground...yet.

For the record, Medley is at 60%. Aaron Medley Bio - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics

Special teams seem OK to me except kickoff returns. Too many coming out that don't even get to the 20 (a touchback gives you 25). A fair catch is usually OK on punts as long as they are clean. There were a few close calls there.

Considering what Young has done on kickoff returns, I'm not sure why we'd be eager to see him on punts. That's not hate. You've got to recognize the field ahead of you when bringing it out. Too many tackles at the 18-19 yard line.

yea but shouldn't they be making some yards on the punts ? and yes i do remember what it was like before Devrin came along, they can do a fair catch now ,i want more now ,which isn't to much to ask

B4 the Ark State game CBJ said that they may have the best punter UT plays against all year. The fair catches on punts shouldn't be a concern yet. IMO

Would still like to see what Vic Wharton could do on kickoffs tho. Even though Devrin has been solid so far. Maybe put Vic deep with Devrin for a reverse or even a fake from time to time.
