Special teams

I still don't know why we have a freshman returner. That is one of the most important rolls in close games and he has fumbled twice...he might be the fastest guy and CPF wants him to get some PT, but...come on

NDs punt return guy wasn't the fastest, he just had good fundamentals...FOLLOW YOUR BLOCKS

I do find it hard to believe that a coach who puts such a high priority in the old maxims of field position, kicking game, etc...allows special teams to be coached by committee and not having 1 individual coaches vision and strategy. Although Va Tech has had a lotta success with putting special teams 1st, I still think in the Vols camp they should be a secondary issue to O and D...but still its a vital part of the gameplan.

the same reason we have a sh*** qb in the game!!! If i was going to lose games i would let all my freshman play! I mean its obvious we want to lose when we leave a qb in that can not get the job done!

I think I heard the other day that Va Tech (Yuck!) has had 51 returns over the past six years and Miami has had something like 55. That can win a lot of ballgames for you.

We need a specially designated SPECIAL TEAMS COACH!

I heard that bammers were behind the special teams blunders.

OWB told me I swear it's true. :peace2:

fulmer has never put any effort into our special teams. thats a good reason why they stink every year. no matter who they hire or fire i don't look for that to change.

Looks like he (LT) may be a fumbler. I hope tis is just frosh jitters. He's lucky Majors is not the head coach. He hated fumbles. Us older guys rember in the Georgia game that Hershel Walker ran over Bill Bates, we had the ball inside the 3 yard line and a talented back named Glenn Ford fumbled and cost us the game. He never played again for the Vols afterward!!

the whole problem with special teams is fulmer wants to play 2nd and 3rd team players and then never prepare them adequately.

virginia tech puts their best athletes on special teams.

The problem is that we do not have a special teams coach. I just hope it all changes next year when we fire all these bastards.

Tn actually uses a lot of starters on special teams. Jason Allen played, Robert Meachem plays, Chris Hannon plays, Omar Gaither does, et al. That isn;t the problem.

Regardless, our 2nd and 3rd team guys are good enough athletes to cover punts and kicks, even though they aren't.

Speaking of hiring new coaches who are the ones that have been hired out from under us in the past five or so years?

Kevin Ramsey: DB's, hired by Donnan at GA; now at Carson Newman

Doug Marrone: OL's, hired by Jets in 200

Lovie Smith: DB's, mid 90's; fired by Fulmer but now head coach of Chicago

Cutliffe: that's obvious

Rodney garner: TE's, recruiting coord.; Hired by Donnan as a hired gun recruiter and still there with Richt

What about Barry, and the mississippi state RB coach. He used to be UT's RB coach before we got trooper.

"special teams?!? We don't need no stinkin' special teams!"

Heck, even John "Have some more koolaid" Adams is ripping CPF now. I have met CPF several times and he seems like a nice guy. That said, he is out on his orange butt if we have another season like this next year.
