What is the reason why we can't return a kickoff past the 20 yard line? I am fine if we fair catch every punt, but I get discouraged when we can't even make it 20 yards on a kickoff. It seems to be pretty standard in college football that most teams will get close to the 30 yard line on a return. Should we just down it and start at the 20?
By the way, I am very pleased with the way we played Sunday night. I just don't know what gives on ST.

I'm wondering the same. Seems like D Young just runs straight at them. Would like to see someone else try and make someone miss.

I think it has a lot to do with the kick returner. DY might not break many long ones, but I'm having trouble thinking of a single time he has put it on the ground. I guess CBJ is going with the safe approach.

Not to say negative about our young men, but so help me if I don't think I could run faster than DY when he's coming out of the end zone.

I vote Cam Sutton. I've always had the mindset that you should have the same returner for both kickoffs and punts. The way they rave about his consistency on punt returns you'd figure it would be a no brainer to have him returning kicks too but I trust that Butch knows what he's doing

It also seems that defenders are all over DY right around the 15 yard line. We have to learn to hold blocks longer than that for anyone to have a chance.

I wanna say I remember him fumbling on the sideline at Miss St in 2012? Don't know if you could've placed the ball on the ground any closer to the sideline w/o it going out. But that always seems to be our luck... With that being said I can't remember any other time when he fumbled so yeah definitely a safe bet

I thought usu had very good punt coverage. their punter was putting a lot of air under the ball and by the time our returner caught the ball, their coverage team was right on top of our returner. they had very good kick coverage also. besides their one fg they had great special teams play. i'm sorry, they had the fumble on a kickoff too.

I should've just said, their kick and punt coverage's were very good.

What makes you think we don't get past the 20?
