I dont understand why our special teams is not better!! what does everyone think. I mean i know they won us the flordia game last year. but i am afriad that we will lose a game by the special teams unit! And do we not recruit any place kickers and if we do; do we do it hard enough?

Our special teams should be better. I know the coaching staff put a lot of emphasis on it in practice and it should have been much better in the UAB game.

James Wilhoite is the one that worries me the most. Inconsistency in field goal kicking isn't something we need to worry about.

it seems that we miss alot of blocks when we try and set up the wedge on kick returns.

and we will break some punts this year. uab had good field position most of the day with the turnovers. and when they did punt it was bouncing inside the 10

Yeah Tennessee never recruits good kickers or punters!

Now seriously

to be good at Special Teams you have to have players will to dedicate themselves to it and believe it.

One of the Generals Maxims...We need to own the kicking game. It has been bad. We need changes.

Yes

By the way on those punts Fulmer needs to leave Hefney back there. Hannon is a loose cannon on punt returns.

I have to say that despite spending more time in practice on it, we don't look any better on S.T.

Actually it says "Press the kicking game for here are where the breaks are made" and our punter hasnt been a problem for a couple of years... field goals have been shaky because of wilhoit surgery sooo .. i wouldnt say its all special teams. The return game needs some work however!

We just lost one of the nations best punters to the NFL. Returns have killed us on field position.
Heff said after the UAB game S.T play was wearing him down early, I think he only meant early, and early for the UAB game?

Also, I have not watched the tape i have of the game. Did Britt also do some of the kickoff duties? The first Wilhoit FG was nailed, The 2nd i had a pretty good angle of it, It just looked like he pooched it and never used any leg.

Special Teams concerns me more than any of the DB, QB situations.

im okay with wilhoit. he can make long kicks for fulmer, and i think he jjust had a bad kick the second time. he should be fine imo. the return game, i dont know. i just hope that it is better.
