Visiting my sister and brother in law who both have served in the Army for 3+ years. Hung out with a lot of military and had a lot interesting conversations. One conversation, though, I need help understanding.
About 10+ soldiers were telling me about a new action the Army is taking under the hand of Obama. Apparently, there have been a lot of lay offs, and its mostly the guys/gals who have already served in Afganistan and Iraq. The layoffs are done during the mandatory reviews and if the soldier has had an "Article 15" during their entire time being in the service, you're gone.
An Article 15 is a minor punishment in the military by the commanding officer, which according to the guys I spoke with, about 40-50% of the soldiers have had an Article 15 at one time.
The reasoning is there are a lot of 18 year olds signing up, so they are cutting out the guys who make more money. Specialist, Staff Sergeants, etc.
I haven't been able to find any more information on this, if anyone can help clear this up, it would be great. Or maybe there is a reason it isn't public. :ermm:
