Week 10 picks: Wolverines-Spartans pick split in half - NCAA Football - Sporting News

Tennessee at Missouri
Saturday, 7 p.m., ESPN

The line: Missouri (-13.5)

Bender: Missouri 30-17
Bianchi: Missouri 42-21
Bradley: Missouri 28-17
Carter: Missouri 34-30
Cooper: Missouri 35-17
Greenstein: Missouri 29-24
Griffith: Missouri 31-17
Hayes: Missouri 31-16
King: Missouri 31-21
Matter: Missouri 34-24

Looking at the W-L records of the panelists it seems that most are flipping coins to pick their games. Jon Cooper, who holds the best record for the season, doesn't pick games as well as the top 86 folks in Freak's weekly pick 'em contest.

Makes perfect sense. Nobody picks UT to do something it hasn't done all year, win on the road against a top team. Throw in a freshman QB and you wonder why six of them picked us to cover.

Only a UT homer would think that they could win.

GBO !

What a circle jerk!

Not a single pick for Tennessee is surprising. Every single one of them picked UGA over Florida, as well. You'd think there'd at least be some dissent.

I still think Mizzou is one of the most overrated teams in college football right now. (With only Miami possibly being more overrated.) Who have they beat? 5 poor to mediocre teams, and 2 very beaten up good teams.

We'd be 6-2 with their schedule, and they'd be 5-3 with ours. They've played slightly better over the season, but the disparity in records is mostly due to strength of schedule, with ours being much much higher. Plus, we've gotten better as the season has progressed.

I tend to try not to get my hopes up for a win in any given week, but it seems like a 50-50 game to me, and the media is treating it as if it's more of an 80-20 game with Tennessee being a huge underdog. Of course, I prefer it that way, since it's likely to give our guys more motivation to win.

I feel that they're picking this game much like most people pick their basketball brackets in March. They look at the won-loss records and the playing site and disregard the strength of the respective teams past competition.

They gonna learn about Dobbs on Saturday!

I'm sorry, but am I the only one who believes Missouri is unproven and a little overrated? Granted, we aren't "world beaters", but c'mon man!

If those clowns need something to pick...tell them to pick their nose and they'll probably be more intelligent.

Vols 34 to 31 and we'll all Palardy like rock stars again.

#BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!

UT homers were about the only ones who picked UT over SC. That said, it will be a tall order to beat Mizzou on the road with a Freshman QB and wounded secondary.

Or it could be the fact that UT hasn't won a road SEC game since 2010 and that was at Vandy. UT has only won 3 SEC away games in the last 6 year. 2008 & 2010 at Vandy and 2009 at UK.

It's time to turn that around!

The reason we seldom get picked is that we are wildly inconsistent, which makes us a risky pick. Every time we take a significant step forward-- i.e., beat USCe-- we follow it with two steps back-- i.e., take a record beatdown by Bama. As soon as we start getting positive chatter, we play poorly and shut it down.

If we can beat USCe, we can beat Mizzou. But will we? Depends on if we show up motivated... or show up flat.

Not many teams wouldn't have gotten drilled at Oregon and at bama. Your great if you beat Toledo, arky state, Indiana, Murray state, vandy, etc. But you suck when you lose against bama Oregon and a rather healthy Florida team early? Whatever. I think the vols will have a shot to win it. Could go either way.

I saw Tom Luginbill pick UT on his ESPN show yesterday evening. He thought Mizzou would be suffering a hangover after letting the SCar game get away from them, while he felt UT will have gotten over the blowout to Bama. He also reiterated what he said in his tweet about how solid he thought Dobbs looked against Bama. His guests also seemed to like UT in this game.

Bruce Feldman picks Mizzou to win 23-21.

"Missouri 23, Tennessee 21: Both teams are leaning on rookie QBs. The Tigers have the better group of receivers and the better D-line so I'll go with them but the Vols will be in it for four quarters."
Picks: Noles roll; Red Raiders bounce back; Spartans beat Michigan - CBSSports.com

This game will come down to how well Dobbs plays. I think Mizzou will likely score at least 28 points. Will Dobbs and our offense score be able to score more?

I don't think they do. Depends on QB of course but 17 - 21 is what I am thinking. I also don't see Dobbs taking that long to get comfortable and I believe that we will have the fewest 3 and outs that we have had all season.

We either win big or lose big. QB scares me inexperience vs. a defense that is good at creating turnovers on the road. Play calling could be an issue if coaches get scared.

I hope very much you are right on both accounts. I'm just leery of this game based on how we've looked on the road to date both offensively and defensively. Dobbs is obviously the X factor in this game. If he plays welll it could energize the team in a way that the Neyland crowd energized the team against SCar. If he does that UT can win. But I really think UT is going to have to score more than 28 pts to win. The only way I see us holding Mizzou below 28 is if they become TO prone. But at the same time they have been very good at creating TOs, and that worries me very much with a true freshman getting his first start on the road.
