Spring Practice: Ainge Article

Thanks Spin, Very candid comments from Ainge. Sounds like he's growing up some...

----------------------

"It's obvious that we really underachieved on offense last season," coach Phillip Fulmer said. "And everybody contributed, including me."

So Fulmer never takes any blame.....

No he doesn't! All he ever does is blame assistant coaches and throws the players under the bus! He is a horrible coach who has never won anything! Right "hatevol"?

Do you ever get the feeling that hatEvol is Mike from Morristown, that muppet who is always on the sports animal with his annoying nasal voice and his "I got three things for ya today guys" I hate that guy.

He is saying the right things. Hopefully he truely means them and has learned. A step in the right direction.

Just as I expected. Ainge bought into his own hype last year and thought success would just be handed to him. And his meltdown had to do with him not being mature enough to handle the QB rotation. I'm sure most of us suspected this was the problem but to hear him say it just validates those suspisions.
Things like not being prepared, lack of focus, bad footwork and thowing motion... those all come down to QB coaching or lack there of. I for one chose to believe that we've remedied that issue. I've said it before, I beleive Ainge will flourish under Cutcliffe. He has the physical aspects needed to be a star QB, I don't think anyone has ever doubted that. Through Cutcliffe he'll work out the mental side.

I agree. I have thought all along that EA would be our starter and will be the calbur player we knew he would be. It's pretty easy to see how a 18 year old could get swept up in the hype. I think we will see the kind of player he can be this year.

"Going into last season, we had guys showing up late for meetings, wearing whatever they wanted when we worked out," Ainge said. "Our attitude was like, 'We're No. 3 in the nation, we can do what we want.''

smh

Wouldn't you think a good Head Coach would nix that b.s. in the bud...pronto?

ESPECIALLY, after almost getting out butts handed to us by UAB at NEYLAND?

Let's face it our offense was at the pinnacle of total collapse. From the qb, the ol, the wr's, an antiquated o scheme, play calling, execution...everything was laughable.

The result of 6 years of stumbling with a totally pathetic O Staff!

Way too much talent for more not to have been achieved.

RealVol I just read this and I think it should bring a smile to your face (if that's possible):

Cutcliffe said his offensive package has grown substantially since the first time he was at Tennessee (through 1998). He spent six seasons as the head coach at Mississippi and was with Charlie Weis at Notre Dame for the spring last year before having to resign to undergo surgery.

While at Notre Dame, Cutcliffe kept his nose in the Patriots playbook and watched hours of tape. Weis was the Patriots' offensive coordinator before taking the Notre Dame job.

"That's influenced a lot of things that we're doing right now," Cutcliffe said.

Good article.

The reason the offense hadn't changed up to this point, as everyone knows, is because Fulmer wouldn't allow it. Now after going 5-6 he is motivated enough to allow Cutcliffe to change it. These changes are all good.

I can't help but believe that after his freshman showing, Ainge has the stuff to be a superstar. Sure, everything fell apart this year fo the Vols but in my heart I KNOW this season had to be a fluke. I still believe they had the potential to be in the top 5 but Murphy's law bit them in the a$$. Desperate coaching decisions, lackluster play at key times and just plain old bad breaks led to a severe loss of confidence by the offense which bled over into a what- the- hell attitude by the "D".

I've seen Crompton play in HS and I just don't see him taking the job from Ainge if Ainge performs this year like he did as a Frosh. I wish I had more confidence in Crompton but I just don't have a good feeling about him. God knows I hope I'm wrong, though.

If he takes the QB job, runs with it, and the Vols kick butt, I'll be the first to beg forgiveness.

I just hope Ainge gets it together because as talented as Crompton is I don't want to have to ride the shoulders of a Freshman(redshirt or not) in the SEC again.

Thanks for the link! Sounds good. W/o a doubt we will be better. I simply worry about being better than LSU, Auburn, AL, uf, UGA & of course how many times has the Ole Ball Coach simply out coached Fulmer, Chavis, Cutcliffe, Sanders, etc.

Time will tell.

I'm looking forward to an aggressive, well coached, expanded & efficient offense.

Thxs again.
