Does anyone have any information as to how practice went today?

COACH FULMER'S COMMENTS FOLLOWING THURSDAY'S FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE:

"There was good energy on the practice field but, as would be expected, we've got lots and lots of work to do to get to where we want to be as far as an executing football team on either side. The good part about it was there was a lot of energy from the coaches and there was a lot of energy around the team."

"(Coaches Kurt Roper and Matt Luke) are young guys, high-spirited guys with good energy. They are as smart as can be. It's a real plus that they've been around our offense's terminology, it's close enough that they are not having to feel their way around the offense. David (Cutcliffe) basically took it from here to Ole Miss and that's what they've learned, so that part has been good. Trooper (Taylor) is the same way at receiver. It was a really positive day that way."

Interesting interview with Swain today on Govols.com. Can't paste because it is a pay site.

Swain basically says that opposing defenses knew the routes by formations, and that Cut has really tweaked the playbook. I know the playbook tweaking is old news, but to hear Swain say that everyone knew what our offense was doing last year is quite telling.

I usually knew what our offense was doing last year, and I've never even seen the playbook.

There definitely is something to that. We have tended to fall in love with certain formations.

It's not just that everyone knew the playbook, it's that they knew the play before we did. We were to $#%$#%$ predictable on the field. We were lucky not to have Jim Bob playing because of some severely wounded QB's being pounded by blitzes and sacks. I'm still shocked that we had as few injuries as we did. We took the pounding in every aspect but injuries I think.

It's really funny how some could think our 8 play, 40 year old, slow, routine & hyper-used offense had become predictable. Amazing isn't it.....

For years now, I've said UT's O Scheme was one of the most innovative (joke just in case you're clueless) in the NCAA. Thank goodness we've had good / great / better talent than most opponents & many a LUCKY break to overcome defeat.
