Spurrier gets in a slap-fight

I'm definitely on Spurrier's side in this. Saying that Spurrier not having to talk to the media is the same as Penn State's scandal is ridiculous.

Morris has been the most hated man in Columbia for over a decade. Has done nothing but rag on the gamecocks since he's been writing. And much of what he says is rediculous and untrue.

Ole ball coach can dish it on Phil but can't have alligator skin when it comes to the media? Really? Imagine him trying to get someone from the Washington Post run for questioning him about playing more golf than coaching as the Skins ole ball coach.

I respect what Spurrier has done and do not want him to retire. I want Dooley or whoever is coaching us to beat his arse for the next several years.. and then he can retire. ps this is my 100th post so I have graduated the pre-100 post jokes and assumptions:):dance2:

The reporter compared him having power at SC to the Penn State situation. That was over the line.

And it should be punishable.

If this guy has the history everyone on here is saying he has he should be canned and left unemployed for the foreseeable future.

I am with neither side. I also happen to think it's a pretty good example of the fact that there is a fundamental problem within both college athletics and the sports media. Both are pretty damn guilty of poor behavior, corruption, greed, commercialism, etc. Funny how we never hear the media berating it's own though. I'll give you a great example- how come the media calls out guys like Spurrier for whatever, yet pretends that ESPN doesn't create unfair advantages in recruiting? I could go on but the media is just as guilty of having a God complex as any coach out there, so it is kind of irritating to read an article like this. It's sort of like a thief accusing a liar of shenanigans or vice versa.

Morris isn't always critical of SC, but for the most part , he usually is. Dude is a newspaper version of a troll.

The pen is mighty than the sword. I remember when Steve got into with that guy last year...(or whenever it was?). Just don't read it, have your lawyer to read it, when he crosses the line, you own yourself a newspaper.

Never pick a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel.

This. I think Coach Spurrier would be better served just ignoring the guy and telling everyone within the USC athletic program to never respond to any requests for information from him or his paper. Getting into a public battle with the guy gives him the attention he craves.

Good for Spurrier. I am so sick and tired of the media being allowed to run rampant. Guys like this have some freakish entitlement complex. The "media" has become synonymous with what used to be known as editorials. Coach Spurrier owes this guy nothing. Nor does he owe any media personality anything. It comes as no surprise that someone else in the "media" is so up in arms over this reaction. Mike Gundy is another example. While he stuck up for his player in an over the top way, the reaction of mainstream media was equally over the top. Crap, where did this soap box come from. I'm gonna step down now.

Exactly. I hate Spurrier but this guy is basically saying Spurrier is capable of corruption. Most coaches run the town they live in but Spurrier never has broken any rules. This dude is trying to be a jerk.
