Chris Low wrote in his blog about how Steve Spurrier is taking over the full responsibility of calling the plays at South Carolina. My question is why did he ever stop?

Low says Spurrier is possibly the best play-caller in SEC history. Why would a coach with that type of reputation just stop doing what he does best?

Maybe he wanted to pass the torch to his son. If that is the case, the experiment failed. South Carolina's offense has been pretty anemic as of late.

Or maybe he just wanted to play more golf and leave the heavy lifting to other members of his staff.

I have a lot of respect for what Spurrier accomplished at Florida, but these latest quotes sound a bit desperate. It sounds like a coach, who may be past his prime, trying to convince everyone (or himself) that he still has it.

Thoughts?

I wonder if he stopped when he went to the Redskins and continued not to call at South Carolina? It would be just like him to claim just that. I football hate the Old Ball Coach. But he's a sly old fart.

I was thinking the same thing when I read that article, if he is thought as one of the best play callers there is, why in the hell would he stop doing it.

Again, you have no clue what you're talking about. He called the plays earlier in his tenure at USCjr.
