Spurrier interviews for Duke job

Duke's program is a bigger rebuilding job then the one he already has. they have no football tradition there. Its a basketball school.

Personally I think it's gettign time for the old ball coach to either go to a top shelf program or just go home and play golf. He doesn't seem to have that "it" anymore that makes players want to play 150% for him. He needs to go where talent goes regularly or go home.

I could see it as one of those moves a senior professional makes because it makes them happy. Money and "proving" anything are not issues Spurrier has to worry about.

Be careful. Look at what happened to me when I raised this question....

I would say that the Triangle area qualifies as a far better place to live (esp. in retirement) than Columbia. What a no pressure job Duke would be, win four games and you become a hero.

I'll be eating a huge plate of crow if Spurrier goes back to Duke. I said there was a ZERO chance of that happening.

No way he would leave SC for that mess... must just be an a consultant in their hiring process.

Yeah. He was just advising the Duke AD. Apparently he was in the area on a recruiting trip and stopped in to meet. He and the Duke AD are good friends.

The only problem with getting his input is that he recommended Carl Franks to Duke two coaches ago.

Spurrier still has great affection for Duke. They gave him a job when he didn't have one back in '87 (after the old USFL folded). He always ranks them 25th in the pre-season coaches poll as a show of support.

Darth Visor has a warm and fuzzy for the school that gave him his first HC job. He was there to give the AD some names to go after. That is all it was.

Why wouldn't he go there? His son lives there, low expectations, and he already turned the program around once when he led them to a undefeated season....
